Forums - Sony Discussion - Pachter: Sony’s Latest Forecast Suggests PS4 Price Cut Incoming, May Not Outsell PS2 In The Long Run Read more

there's no way that can happen, ps4 will already struggle a bit to sell 100million, especiallyif sony plans on a ps5 next year.

Of course it's not going to outsell ps2, no console is ever going to get close to touching that monster again. It continued to sell well for well over a decade after its release, I don't believe the modern tech climate will allow for such a long tail.

Since Pachter is always wrong...

No price drop this year, and PS4 will definitely outsell PS2.

All sony needs is for the ps4 to keep up with the ps2 until the ps5 is out. Then let the ps5 go into beast mode and continue the massive annual sales.

I don't think it is such a surefire deal that PS4 is not going to reach PS2 numbers. This is going to be a very long lived platform, and it is going to be one of the chapest platforms in history, across the most variations of hardware.

There is absolutely no way we don't see a PS4 Super Slim built on 7nm chips, with a super cheap SSD. Samsung expects SSD prices to fall below HDD by 2020 so that 1TB SSD will be cheaper than a 500GB HDD. A digital only addition should also see the light of day as the sales of games will pass the 50% digital in many regons in the next year or two. Then there is the outside chance Sony makes a mobile/handheld version, and even more so a second revision to increase power.

It is very possible that we will have a $99.99 - $149.99 PS4 by 2020. This along with other hadware form factors should push the total number of systems sold within the PS4 hardware ecosystem past that of PS2. It may not be a true 1:1 comparison, but at the end of the day, I think the PlayStation brand user base will be bigger than ever by the time they put a wrap on PS4.

It really shouldnt struggle with 100m, if by next year March it ll be at 78m (early 2018).

Also theres NO way, that Playstation 5 launches next year.

Its 2019 (holidays) earliest, and more likely 2020.

I think its more likely you ll see Playstation 4, hit 100m+ before Playstation 5 launches.

After PS5 launches, it still sells another 10-20m units.

However I agree that theres no realistic chance of it selling more than PS2 did.

I never thought that it would sell nearly PS2 levels. I always pictured Gameboy as its big competition. Though it's a handheld it appears to have the closest number to what PS4 will reach.

now that's logical postitive thinking!

I think PS4 not outselling PS2 is obvious. 30 million of PS2's sales occurred after PS3's launch because the console was such a travesty in its first few years. I somehow doubt Sony is going to make the same mistakes with a potential PS5, and cause PS4 to continue selling so well into next gen. I'm predicting 125 - 130 million lifetime sales for PS4.

still don't think Scorpio will do a damn thing, especially seeing how bad the Xbox seems to be doing so far this year, it will need a big two months to make up for that. I don't think Switch is going to take many sales away either, they offer totally different things.

PS4 will do well to get to 100 million, 150m is never happening

World is bigger and wealtheir now, as price come down more will buy into a PS4.

Has a good elgitamete chance of making it, The product is just that good.

Plus now that Patcher nut said it wont it surely will.
