Forums - Gaming Discussion - PlayStation profit $1.2 Billion, highest since 1998

"What does Sony need to do to counter the Switch?"

Yeah, nothing, maybe.

How far off the profits in 1998 is it? I can only see growth in profits in 2018 and 2019. Continued massive hardware sales, huge third party software sales and the first party line up hitting it's prime.

Of course digital taking over physical will also greatly help their profits too and an increase in ps plus subs.

During the dark days of ps3 it wasn't guaranteed there would be a ps5 and beyond. Now it's inevitable and that makes me very happy as a playstation fan.

Both Sony and Nintendo are doing really well it seems. MS it almost doesn't matter because they are the richest company overall by a mile.

I'll have to look into this more myself one day as I don't trust Daniel too much. Not the sharpest tool in the shed that one.

As far as Sony making more profit, I wouldn't be surprised if it's driven by game sales. If you look at hardware, I wouldn't say it's great. The system sold 56 million according to VGChartz and the 8th Generation is ending. Sony doesn't have the handheld line anymore. But Sony has made strides in building up first party games. I think that's a big reason for the increase. But, again, I'd have to look at the financial myself.
