According to VGChartz, the Xbox One has sold ~29 million units so far, after about 3.5 years. In order to sell more than the NES, it will have to sell at least 62 million in its lifetime. Do you think that it will achieve this?
Personally, I do not. So far the XB1 has been unable to even get close to 10 million in one year and sales of Microsoft's console look to be on a year on year decline. In 2015 XB1 sold ~8.6 million; while in 2016 that fell to ~8.3. I don't think that the XB1 will even reach 8 million this year with added competition from the Switch, the PS4's momentum, and the lack of any notable Xbox exclusives.
Some say that the Scorpio will be Microsoft's saving grace, but I don't see it entering the market at anything under $499, which is just too expensive to have a real impact.
I think that the Xbox One will end up with lifetime sales of about 55 million. Not bad, but not great either. A 30+ million decline from the 360 seems to be on the horizon.
Anyway, what do you guys think? Can it beat the NES? Or maybe you even think it could beat the 3DS at 70+ million? (I'd love to hear someone argue for that)
