Forums - Gaming Discussion - PSN Generates More Revenue than Nintendo

crissindahouse said:

That's the funny thing about paying to play online. Last gen many Sony and Nintendo fans complained about MS and MS fans were like "that money they generate from it though". This gen, some of the same Sony fans are like "awesome, so much money Sony makes now" even if it comes from what they complained about last gen and when Nintendo will make a lot of money from it in some years you will see some Nintendo fans who will love the profit  NIntendo generates even if it comes from what they didn't like before

Edit: Just to clarify, that's not meant to be against OP, I have no idea what he said about paying for online last gen. Just in general what you can see in some threads.

In the end we fans should be clear to know that every profit the companies make is from us. So if fan X says to fan Y that his company makes more money, than fan X pocket's have probably been better emptied.

It's a real shame that despite PSN doing so well, the quality of PS Plus has dropped considerably in comparison to last generation.

Might be a reason they have better profits though.

Good thing Nintendo's doing a paid online subscription service this generation!

Good for who?

I always am surprised when this happens. I am still shocked that the PlayStation brand is bigger than the Nintendo brand.

How is that shocking exactly?

This is all of PSN sales right? Not just revenue from + subscribers?

PS+, online game, movie, TV series sales, Hulu, DLC etc all combined.

I don't think the Switch got more attention than Pokemon Go.

Well, as Pokemon Go is made by Niantic not Nintendo, it is easy to ascertain. Nintendo has over 5000 employees. Sure, not all working on Switch and Switch games, as they have other products, mainly 3DS. Let's say only 1000 of them working in the Switch and games for it column. That's a ridiculous low assumption, but let's go with it. Niantic has ... less than 200 employees. So sure, they each poured more than 5 times more attention into their product than the Nintendo-employees. But stop, Pokemon Go isn't Ninantics only product, they still have and maintain Ingress, their main product.

So you may think that Switch got less attention than PoGo, but it is basically impossible. You should rethink your thinking.

I just assumed that Nintendo was bigger than PlayStation, especially after hearing that even during the 6th gen Nintendo had higher profits than the PlayStation divsion (of course, I could have mistaken with that).

This is more than the subscription revenue itself, right? This has to be a total sum including all digital sales, i.e. games, music, movies, etc. across all devices that access PSN.

Still quite impressive, but I suspect that as Nintendo builds a better platform with Switch (inevitable) then their digital sales on the one console (Switch) will outdo the multiple consoles that this generic PSN revenue (PS3, PSV, PSTV, PS4) is counting.

Doubtful. For one the subscription fee on Nintendos services will probably lower than that of PS+. Secondly, the user base of Nintendo consoles contains in large parts people who aren't interested in online in the first place. I suspect that at least 20% of Switches will not even be connected to the intertubes. Third - the offerings are still bigger in Sony's online shop, as more third-parties including indies offer their games.

In response to this PSN Plus asia offered this games the past few months.
