Actually that's the best thing Nintendo announced in years.
A 2DS that looks like the 3DS but doesn't have the annoying 3D effects.
But $150? Come on, the pricepoint for this is $100, I'm probably getting one of this instead of another 3DS now.

I hope you are aware of the fact that you can just not use the 3D in a normal 3DS

I don't want to pay for something I won't use.

That's a truly ridiculous decision right after the Switch release, it's like they don't want it to keep its momentum going. If the 3DS all the way has only been saved by a massive amount of revisions and a bunch of price cuts, it appears to be a bygone concept, better to back their new horse instead.
This also extends their period of bifurcating their development resources for software, which was one of the main issues the Switch was going to fix.
Oh my god, that's all there is to say about this.

Remember when GBA Micro killed the momentum of NDS?

Me neither.

Remember when the market was completely different and Nintendo hadn't just released a machine trying to reel in two different demographics and hadn't been suffering from huge problems with extended development cycles that lead to problems supporting more than one platform at a time and didn't choose to keep these problems alive even longer?

End of 2016 hardware sales:

Wii U: 15 million. PS4: 54 million. One: 30 million. 3DS: 64.8 million. PSVita: 15.2 million.

Huh, that's surprising. But there are still a few 3DS games in the pipeline -- Monster Hunter, Kirby, Ever Oasis, Pikmin, Miitopia -- so I guess why not. I really don't think this signals that Nintendo plans to pump out more 3DS software at the expense of Switch. The strength of Switch is the unification of all software development. I'd be shocked if Nintendo submarined its new platform just to move a few million more 3DS units.

This strikes me more as a chance to push the 3DS games already en route, provide an attractive price point for late adopters, and maybe even create a gateway drug for a more powerful and future-friendly Switch. Just as BotW's multi-platform release didn't hurt Switch sales, a New 2DS won't cause consumers to suddenly forget about Nintendo's latest system.

And this is the real death-knell of 3DS. The 2DS. The real successor to the DS.

I must be the only person on the planet who likes the 3D feature...

Looks cool, basically a 3DS design without 3D.

I would have preferred if they had released this 3 years ago when I bought my own 3DS XL.

Its perfect.

Clampshell design, XL screens and No gimmicky 3D nonsense.

I havent touched my 3D on my 3DS XL since the day I bought it back in Holiday 2013 - tried it on Pokemon X, didnt like and never used it since - such a useless feature.

Well... it's 3D.  What other "use" is there other than that?

You get to see your games in 3D.  That's it.  That's the feature.  What else were you expecting from it?  What else is it supposed to do?

Still believe the Switch is replacing the 3DS as a handheld?

It appears Nintendo may not think so.

It appears you may know nothing about Nintendo, remember this?

Released almost one year after Nintendo DS on NA, I guess DS was not a replacement for GBA after all

Silly me. I must have missed the part during the whole Switch launch where the Switch actually does have the capacity to acceptand play 3DS cartridges. Care to point out where that port is on the Switch?

I hope you are aware of the fact that people don't like paying extra for features they have no intention of using.

He says is the best thing Nintendo has shown in years becaus is a 3DS without 3D, that's the point where I may think he talks about the price, but then he goes and says the price is bad, so I end up confused, why is this such a good announcement for him then?
