Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo made profit of $920m in FY2016.

A large portion definitely comes from selling off the Baseball team

So will their stock go up? I need to buy some before their profit is larger next time.

The stock price generally goes up if the company exceedes expectations. Right now the expectation from Nintendo themselves is that they'll make a 45 billion yen profit next year. This involves selling about 10 million switches and 6 million 3DS systems.

If you think they'll beat those numbers, that is a strong case for investing.

Nintendo thinks they'll sell 6 million 3DS'? I don't see that happening, unless they cut the price.

It seems that mobile hasn't quite paid off for Nintendo:
Mobile income : $218M, of which $182M comes from Pokemon Go. So Mario Go and FE only made $35M?

What makes you think they can't as they just had a year that achieved it and this is before their business plan is fully in motion.

Wow, another. Do you think Nintendo has sport teams to sell every year?

Of course no. Just like Sony can't sell all of their buildings.

Massive numbers, this are some really dark times for haters.

Selling underpowered, overpriced hardware certainly pays off. I wouldn't be surprised if despite its low sales the wii u has made more money for Nintendo than the xbox one ever will for Microsoft if you exclude xbox live revenue that is.

It wouldn't surprised me if WiiU made more money than Ps3 either.

Anything made more money than the ps3.

Proud to be the first cool Nintendo fan ever

Number ONE Zelda fan in the Universe

DKCTF didn't move consoles

Prediction: No Zelda HD for Wii U, quietly moved to the succesor

Predictions for Nintendo NX and Mobile

The difference is that Sony's gaming division is profitable without the need of one-off sale. And they haven't even diversified to mobile yet, though I wouldn't count that as part of gaming.

Apparently Fire Emblem Heroes made more money for Nintendo than Mario Run despite 1/10th the downloads:

Yikes. Smartphone gamers really, really, reeeeeeeeeally do not like paying for games. Not even $10. I've been saying this for ages now.

Yeah, mobile games, F2P + microtransactions are the way to go. And they severely overestimated how many mobile gamers are willing to pay for Mario.

I thought that seemed high too.

I think they must have something planned. We know 3DS is getting software support through the rest of the year. I think there is a good chance that all the awareness of Nintendo's brands that has come from the Switch and the NES Classic and Pokemon Go could continue to translate into more yes on the 3DS.

I think they'll do some combination of:

- Cutting the price

- Annoucning more Nintendo Classics titles for $19.99

- Selling the system on the strength of it being a cheaper and more kid-friendly portable option for families

i.e., "Don't trust you sticky fingered 6 year old with your $300 Switch? The 2DS is $80 and has a massive library of games."

Lame excuses as always, specially knowing that Nintendo has been profitable always except for one single year and always using their games as main moneymaker while Sony had many years with red numbers.

Oh, and making games for mobiles is part of gaming, you can say whatever you want about it, it doesn't change reality.

It paid off big time with pokemon, the sales of the 3dS games had a huge bump for a long time, Mario Maker did great numbers on 3DS just after Mario Run was released despite people not having great expectations for it since it was a poor man version of the WiiU one.

Nintendo said from the beggining that the main purpose of this was to rise the popularity of their IPs in order to rise the sales of theri franchises on their consoles and that's exactly what they have done and will continue to do
