Forums - Politics Discussion - Republicans Vote To Keep Health Care Benefits For Themselves, But To Cut Them For Americans

http://www.vox.com/platform/amp/2017/4/25/15429982/gop-exemption-ahca-amendment

House Republicans appear to have included a provision that exempts Members of Congress and their staff from their latest health care plan.

The new Republican amendment, introduced Tuesday night, would allow states to waive out of Obamacare’s ban on pre-existing conditions
. This means that insurers could once again, under certain circumstances, charge sick people higher premiums than healthy people.

Republican legislators liked this policy well enough to offer it in a new amendment. They do not, however, seem to like it enough to have it apply to themselves and their staff. A spokesperson for Rep. Tom MacArthur (R-N.J.) who authored this amendment confirmed this was the case: members of Congress and their staff would get the guarantee of keeping this Obamacare regulations

So Republicans trying to push a bill that would let them and their families enjoy the benefits of Obamacare regulations that prevent people them for being charged for pre-existing conditions (paid for by the tax payer no less), but they are OK with these benefits being cut for average Americans.

LOL, what a turd sandwhich of politics.

I'm all for more affordable healthcare options. The options that cover pre existing conditions could be more expensive and should be. That's better than people choosing to not have healthcare because its too expensive (that was Obamacare). That allowed people to buy into healthcare when they actually do get sick which is unfair for those of that pay in.

On a side note, I want people who abuse their bodies to pay more for healthcare. I eat well, do some exercise, don't smoke, don't drink, I should pay less.

Congress isn't just republicans btw.

You do realize that the individual mandate is what solves this problem right? Under Obamacare everyone is paying in, whether on an actual plan or through the fee if you don't have a plan. Obamacare numbers need to be adjusted somewhat obviously because some people saw their rates go way up in order to make healthcare affordable for a lot more people, because it was BEFORE Obamacare when people chose not to have healthcare because it was too expensive. With Obamacare many millions more people can afford health insurance. However, it would seem it made it too affordable for them by making it more expensive for some other people.

Anyway, you know the filthy republicans are up to no good (well, when they're doing anything at all) when they want to strip Americans of things that they refuse to strip themselves of. Typical republican mantra of oppressing the people while enriching themselves.

Is anyone surprised at this point? Who knew that the moochers weren't the poor but the Republicans all along.

But we shouldn't pretend that politics in the US could solve anything. The people are the problem. The people that don't vote, the people that think taxes are inherently bad, the people who treat politics as entertainment and don't care about policies at all.

Unless there is a complete paradigm shift in their thinking nothing will ever change.

The Democrats wanted to keep Obamacare in the first place including their own benefits, so they're not the hypocrites for once. So you see the big difference here is that Democrats want benefits for everyone and Republicans only for them selves. Very big difference.

I get the idea of Obamacare, but it failed at its primary goal of making healthcare more affordable. Forcing people to pay big fees to get nothing while others get it free is a mess.

Many more have insurance now because they're essentially forced or getting it free. I could probably be okay with that if it was actually more affordable.

A lot of people weren't buying healthcare pre-Obamacare, but forcing people to pay in when its more expensive isn't helping people either.

You can attack republicans but they didn't create Obamacare and its a disaster. If any numbers need to be adjusted its probably few should get free halthcare.

Well here's my take.

There should healthcare options that do cover and don't cover pre-existing conditions. The cost of them would vary as well.

Some people seem to be fine having no healthcare coverage (but were paying a big fee anyway). If we could get them to atleast pay into a cheaper healthcare option with no coverage on pre-existing conditions, that would be a step in the a better direction.

If congress wants the healthcare option that cover pre-existing conditions, that doesn't bother me. I personally would want that if its affordable. The problem is our healthcare options are getting very expensive partly due to lack of options.

We don't buy healthcare for what we need anymore. We now pay more for others.

To him, everything bad is from liberals. You'll probably never make him admit he's wrong
