Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Rumor: Final Fantasy VII Remake For Switch To Be Shown At E3

If you look through the thread the guy states it's pretty much a rumor. He also said if he was sure he would've just posted it to GAF himself.

He said he heard it from a reliable source. Also its stated as a rumor right here in the thread title.

A "Play it first game" on PS4.. showing game play at a Nintendo E3 conference? Zero chance.

I'd be surprised if they got the game at all, but to the point of showing game play this year? Hell no.

What other "play it first" games are there on PS4?

Just dropping this here. PlayStation Conversation with Kitase.

Every piece of good Switch news is another nail in Scorpio's coffin. Just is.

It releases first on PS4. Isn't exclusive to PS4. XBox One version is likely in development right now too.

Why would it be? Don't think it has any appeal to traditional XOne owners, at least looking at how XV fared. If sub-million sales are enough for SE, then I'd understand, but somehow I doubt it.

FF7 has appeal all over the world. It could easily sell another million on the XBox and perhaps up to 2-3 million on Switch.

If it was PS4 exclusive or console exclusive, Sony would just say so, in fact they'd be yelling it from every rooftop. It's not. "Play It First On PS4" was always a really odd phrasing that pretty much confirms it isn't exclusive to the PS4. For games that are PS4/PC only, Sony uses the exclusive to PS4/PC moniker, so it can't be that either.

These days actually IMO no developer is going to let a game this (likely) expensive to make be exclusive to one platform. There's lots of money to be made from 30-40 million-ish XBox/Scorpio owners and 12-20+ million Switch owners. Game doesn't even look like it's coming out until 2018 at the earliest.

I really doubt that.

So we're back at having Final Fantasy VII remake rumours now?

I think it's quite possible. Dunno about E3 though. Lets look at some facts here.

- Switch is likely to be the no.1 platform in Japan in short order. It's going to blow past the PS4. JRPGs are biggest in well (duh) Japan.

- The game from the very beginning basically is stated to be not exclusive to the PS4. Why would you say "Play it first on PS4" ... the entire phrasing basically confirms you can "play it later .... somewhere else".

- Cloud Amiibo seemed completely random considering there is no version of FF7 on any Nintendo platform. Ryu Amiibo foreshadowed Ultra SF2 for Switch. I personally think Nintendo cut a deal for this game last year, and that's why Cloud is in Smash.

- Square-Enix's president just recently said in an interview he wants more Switch content, including more ports where possible.

- The game runs on Unreal Engine 4, an engine that scales very well to the Switch chipset. A recent article stated there are like 20+ Switch UE4 games in development in Japan alone.

- Square-Enix's other big JRPG is Dragon Quest XI ... which is coming to Switch, that also runs on (you guessed it) Unreal Engine 4.

- Another reliable poster at NeoGaf, Orgen, who leaked Pokemon Black 2 and White 2 has said "he's heard" of a Japanese Unreal Engine 4 based port coming to Switch that's going to create a thread that gets archived (meaning it's a thread that's going to create a legendary meltdown on NeoGaf). Final Fantasy VIIR would fit that bill, in fact I can't really think of many other ports that would.

They might have to make a custom version for the Switch, but I think it's possible.
