Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Would you buy a Switch with 4G or GSM and how much more would you be willing to pay?

Would you like a Switch with Cel service?

In another thread KBG29 brought something up that I had been wondering about.  How many people would wait for a 4G or GSM switch and how much would you be willing to pay for it?

I play my switch very close to my router (plus I've only been playing Zelda so I don't need a connection) so i haven't had any problems but i have heard some complain that the WiFi is weak.  The above question assumes that Nintendo get 4G/3G or GSM implementation right. If they didn't I think it could really hurt the Switch brand.

I don't know much about Cell service outside of the USA so I'm not sure if GSM would cover most of the world or if implementing Cell service in the switch would then lock Nintendo into producing different switches for different regions to be compatible with their cell networks. Ideally the region free one Switch for the whole world concept is a solid one in my opinion and I don't know that i would like to see them have to produce different units for different regions.

So would you trade in your release Switch for a GSM model?  Would you be willing to buy a service contract?  How do you think Nintendo should handle this if they implemented the idea? What would be the top end you would be willing to pay?

Nope cause the added functionality would be useless to me. Mobile Data comes at a premium in Canada charging $40-$60 for 1gb. So... Nope. And that is not even getting into the latency and reception issues.

I'm in the same boat as you, I play almost exclusively at home, I don't need another bill.  That said if Nintendo was able to somehow include different tiers of cel service in their online subscription some might bite since that would be just one bill and not two. That said it would likely be a nightmare for Nintendo and I would like to see the hardware be there but the contract be between you and your preferred carrier to use that cellular hardware .

Not worth it. If I really want to go online when I'm on the go, I can tether it to my phone.

I bought a 3G Vita on day one. That feature was used a grand total of zero times. I wouldn't personally use that feature on my Switch. I have a phone for that.

Nope. Absolutely no need and wasted money spent.

Every smartphone in existence can be turned into a wifi hot-spot. This is by far the simplest and most cost-effective way to get the best possible mobile internet.

I am looking at getting a Switch around October or November. If Nintendo announced a 4G Switch next E3 2018 for next holiday I would absolutely upgrade, and I would have no problem dropping $500+ on it if it has Calling and Texting at the OS level.

Unlike most, I have no ties to Android or iOS though. I just need calling and text support, a good web browser, physical button, AAA games, and I am pretty much satisfied from a mobile device. If Nintendo could offer that, I would own a 4G Switch in every color, and upgrade every time they release a revision, and I would give away the old ones for free to anyone wanting to ditch iOS and Android.

For my needs the 3G Vita was the best Phone ever created. If Nintendo could give me a next gen version of the 3G Vita, I would forever be in debt to them.

From what I understand no.

People seem to enjoy single player games, you can easily enter and exit, because its suited for easy gameing on the go.

Theres a Arlo thread about it, and most people seem to agree.

The idea is for the Switch to be able to replace your phone. Otherwise, there is really no reason to get a 4G Switch.

Most providers have greater restrictions on tethering, so that could be very expensive. Also, many business's do not allow you to have personal wifi hotspots active.

On top of that, at least to me, the idea of a 4G Switch would be to replace the smartphone. I don't need two 4G devices on me, or on my bill, and I don't need two devices that can make/recieve calls and text and broswer the web.

4G costs money, so having a Switch with cellular wifi would just mean you need to pay 2 subscription services for 1 device.

besides, 4G still isnt that good, so online games would have even more lag.
