Forums - Nintendo Discussion - "Rainway" Eshop Third Party App will let you stream Pc Games on Nintendo Switch

It would be epic if this were to happen since we all know many third party games won't come to the switch. I doubt Nintendo would allow it though cause then instead of buying a game through their eshop, people would buy it on pc. Not everyone will but even the idea of a few might be enough to not allow it.

Oh yes, just like the Shield..  You will need an nvidia GPU and the toolkit from the shield (it will all be included with the app).  If this is approved by nintendo, and available on the eshop...  it will be locked down tight.

I don't see why this can't be smooth enough. Plenty of people play games on their Wii U tablets at the ugly 480p video quality, streaming PC games to the Switch would be pretty cool. I'd love to play Dolphin on my Switch.

Never knew what the resolution of the WiiU game pad was but I always thought it looked great. Oh well. My biggest problem with streaming is connection issues. When streaming to my admittedly shitty PC/Laptop or to my Vita via Remote Play, there has always been problems or lag--even with PS4 Pro. WiiU somehow never had that problem. I don't know why.

If they can replicate WiiU performance and stability on the Switch I'll change my tune 180 degrees.

I highly doubt that. The Wii U Gamepad was designed with streaming capability in mind, so I think they use some proprietary tech or modified connection, something that won't be available on both Switch and PC.

A handheld gamer only (for now).

The wiiu uses proprietary method of streaming to it's gamepad which doesn't use your wifi. There is a specialized hardware built into the wiiu console and gamepad that allows it to send and recieve the data. Remote play and pc streaming does it through wifi so its success is entirely dependent on the quailty of your router and the devices it is streaming from and to. In order to get the lowest possible results lag and latency, your pc/ps4 pro would need to be connected via ethernet to the router and the router has to have at a minimum wireless N at 5ghz. And of course, the switch has 5 ghz wifi.

But even with that, it would also depend on how the software will handle the streaming and compression. The more uncompressed the streaming is, the more likely you will get lag. And even if thats perfect, it still won't be as low as wiiu's low latency. But in ideal situations, there shouldnt be much lag and the input lathency should be good enough.

I can't tell if this a good thing for Nintendo or a bad thing, there's too many pros and cons. On one side this could be a system selling feature and it could fill in any potential lack of demanding AAA games, but for multiplat's like Skyrim, Steep, Yooka-Laylee, etc it would take away sales from the actual Switch versions.

I don't think it would. If the quality of the game isn't compromised too much, I'd rather get it on the Switch for portabilty. If there's a huge differance in quality, it probably won't be released on the Switch anyway. It's a win win situation.

Interesting, not really sure how it works, but by the looks of things, this won't be approved by Nintendo :p
