Super Metroid is probably my favorite game on SNES. Do it 2D in a similar vain as that without any voice-work/dialog/hand-holding and I would be all over it.

I don't mind the idea of voicework in Metroid, just so long as it's done right.

Zelda at least finally got it right with Breath of The Wild.

The little bit of writing at the start and end of super metroid was great.
It meant that the entire game you were making your own story.

Music and visuals thus played a greater role on setting the mood and urgency.

3D Metroid has far more untapped potential. I wouldn't mind a 2D throwback, but imo its either a 3D game and a 2D game or just a 3D game. It would be a huge waste of potential to have a 2D game instead of a 3D one.

I'm craving a 2D Metroid much more...but I know 3D has much more selling potential. I'd be happy with either, assuming it's done well.

I love 2D Metroid, but I kinda hate the Metroid Prime series.

I would like both, but if I had to choose, 3D.

Honestly, as long as they put the time and effort into making it great I'd take either.

If they wanted to do something a little outside the norm for Nintendo and make Metroid something of a scifi/light horror/survival game akin to Alien Isolation I'd love that... I'd put the odds of that somewhere around .5% lol

I never played the prime series but i just finally finished super metroid,, i would want both tbh, a 2D HD metroid like wonder boy and hollow knight (not the 2.5 crap) and a new 3d metroid reimagining the series with a new story.

As the immortal Towlie once famously said... I choose both.

3D, although at this point I would take either.
