Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Youtuber Arlo Nails It On Switch's Appeal And Oppurtunities

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sje19RQ_euc

I think this guy basically nails why the Switch is appealling and to whom and why ports to Switch aren't a bad thing.

I agree with him, I think a large part of the appeal of the Switch is having plausible home console experiences playable anywhere and this is different from the 3DS even.

And yeah, I'd take a Mass Effect Trilogy on Switch for example. Also I do think that is exactly the demographic driving Switch -- older, experienced players who like games a lot and may even own a PS4 already, but we just don't have the time to play as much as we used to. Life changes when you're not a kid anymore and the time you can spend on video games changes.

Switch creates flexibility in how we play and makes it more convienant to play, but it's about playing those big, immersive games that you can get lost in for hours. Those are the games are this audience want to play, not smartphone games or bite size 3DS titles, it's just harder as you get older to set aside X amount of time in front of a home console, Switch changes that.

Arlo is one of the few that I been following for awhile, and I still amazed he has not fallen under the jaded youtuber yet, and will hope he never does. With that said, I share a lot of the same views as him and this is no different.

It's so surprising seeing how much he's grown in popularity, I remember when he was on here and linked his channel, and he had barely any subscribers!

"port everything... focus on the single player games." - Arlo.
I like it.

Interesting, it's funny that he quoted mass effect and RE4 but i think the port that would make everyone double dip or even buy a switch for is GTA V.

Eh.

He's right too on the third party thing. If NBA 2K was coming to the Wii U I wouldn't buy it. I mean why buy that version when you could buy the PS4 version to play in the same way with better graphics. The incentive was always "well if you buy it on Nintendo maybe they'll have some fun gimmick with the controller like motion shooting or dual screen play calling or some such" and those things usually turned out to be underwhelming additions.

But this year I'm buying NBA 2K on the Switch (no PS4 version). Because I fly a lot for work and being able to play that on the go will make flights go by like a breeze. That is a tangiable thing that adds value to my experience and you don't even need to be a Nintendo fan to appreciate that.

I understand the appeal of it, just imagine being able to play GTA V on the go, or even red dead redemption, i'd double dip on both despite having played them on the 360.

So we are to port begging again.  Red Dead still isn't even on PC...

I don't think we really even have to "beg" for ports of older games. It'll likely happen inevitably because publishers are going to look at Switch sales and then look at their content catalog and what can be ported to the system easily/reasonably and within a short amount of time.

A lot of pubs have back catalogs of games that could easily be ported to Switch and make decent money off of.
