Forums - Gaming Discussion - The lack of continuous chatter about the PS4 Pro should teach Microsoft about scorpio

I don't expect alot of 3rd party games to take advantage of the Scorpio mainly due to the Devs not putting in the effort. Atleast i know MS will push 4k head on and lead by example with all there own games.

Well, they said all 1080p games on XB1 would be 4K, the problem is that there is a few games with this res. 900p is TBD for now.

Anyway, I think the ports for Scorpio will be easier than PS4 Pro counterparts. They said that devs can simply use PC code.

Micro are relaying so much on it, the Xbox 1s was doing fine but then again the Ps4 gets the exclusives, it looks like they are not just getting their act together, the favour triple A western games and the releases from Japan go exclusive to Ps4 and it wins back it's throne
Micro needs to understand the need for a big library, if a title doesn't sell Ok on their system they still need it to build a wider audiance, it's not just exclusives that they lack, I wanted to buy their machine, but what it offers I can get on my Ps4 and I get more than that
Anyway their engineers did a great job with Scorpio, I just hope it will help future a wider variety

It always comes back to the fact that these are machines to play GAMES. Graphics are beautiful and creative but they are secondary. The evidence is in the fact that in the last decade, as graphics have become near-realistic, 'retro look' games have become popular. Many people prefer to play a diverting, simple game than to be immersed in a realistic world that requires 100s of hours and investment in a convoluted story line. Movies are 2 hours long for reason!
Personally since Nintendo has focused on games in the last 3 generations and put graphics on the back-burner I've only bought Nintendo consoles and I'm never disappointed.

What the shit is going on in this thread? Are either of these two arguments ever going to die?

Who cares about gens anymore? Gens have been out of sync for quite a while now. It's pretty much entirely meaningless. Nintendo could be on 'gen 10' before MS/Sony even release their first 'gen 9'.

People talk about PS4Pro and Scorpio like they are mainstream SKUs. They are not. They are niche products for a segment of the video gaming market who are interested in 4k or better performance in 1080p. That is not something most gamers are going to care about. Later down the road this is also about extending the life of the platform. When PS4Pro and potentially Scorpio are the only versions you can buy (4-5 years from now).

Scorpio is not going to 'save' the XBONE by itself just as PS4Pro didn't make the sizable lead PS4 already had over the others jump to lightspeed. As always it is pretty much all about the games and the price. MS needs to get more good exclusives otherwise no matter what they do with the hardware they won't catch up with SONY.

I will say this. The PS4 Pro, currently, as a 1TB vs. a 500GB PS4 slim, is worth it, for the upgrade. You get more stability in games, and more HDD space. There is at least a hundred dollars extra in value. With that said, I have an original PS4 as a gift, and a ps4 pro, I bought at 100 dollars off, so I bought mine for 299. I was not going to get the pro if I couldn't get a deal. I already had a PS4, and the 400 dollars + tax I would have had to pay, for 100 dollars worth of upgrades would not have been worth it at all...

Now, I also have a GTX 1080Ti + Ryzen 7 1800x + Samsung 960 Pro NVMe 512GB + 512GB SSD, +1TB HDD + 2TB HDD, + 4TB external HDD

Xbox Scorpio will not best my PC. It just wont. Microsoft already announced that every xbox one game will make it's way to PC. I can do max settings at 1440p + 60FPS, minimum, or up to 144FPS, thanks to my monitor. But, only overwatch runs at 144FPS with no dips at max settings.

Personally I have 0 reason to own an xbox. However, I'm not playing PS exclusives without a PS4.
Both consoles are premium versions of pre-existing consoles. They're not meant to take over, in terms of sales.

Do I touch my PS4? No, I don't, I have a Pro.

Those premiums are about compromises. Are you willing to pay more for something you probably wont notice? Frame dips drive me crazy. If my minimum isn't what I want to play my game at, I will go into the settings and change things up until I get a smooth framerate across the board...

Not everyone is going to care, notice, or have a TV or monitor capable of showing off what those new consoles can do. I replaced my TV to get better response times, and more screen real estate... which cost me 700 dollars... For some people, replacing a perfectly good TV like that one for another at 2.5x the price is insane.

Is it faster than my monitor. No, it's 2 frames behind, so I play non-competitive games on the 4K TV, which is 50 inches and enjoy the larger picture. But, when I play a fighting game, like TTT2, I use my PC monitor. It's smaller, but it's faster.

There's an entry level cost, and there's a premium cost for consoles. I think it's fine. Scorpio will do well... Not everyone has a set-up like mine, with 10 gaming consoles, and a PC with high end specs on top of it all. There is a spot for scorpio.

The people who want xbox games to look better than 900p, without spending 1,000 dollars on a PC to get almost comparable performance. But, let's be honest, not even a $1,000 PC is going to beat the Scorpio. Not after taxes, warranties, and installation. Even if you do it yourself, it still takes time to do.

Scorpio is straightforward. You're not getting a fully fledged PC. You pick your game, and play it.

As you last said, if you're not getting a fully fledged PC, pick your game and play it. This is why the PS4 Pro was made. Microsoft is pushing next gen before it even starts to try and beat Sony out the gate. Sony made the PS4 pro the way they did because it would be too costly to make a full fledged 4k console complete with a 4k blu Ray drive playing at even 30fps.  They already risked their neck for Blu Ray when Microsoft was trying to use HD DVD against them to try and kill off Blu Ray. They dont want to take that risk. Because of what Microsoft has done there will be no surprises or noticable boosts for next gen that will surprise most people who knew about the Scorpio. It will be slight and incremental. With that said, as many outlets have said, the scorpio is going to be held back by the original XBox One S because games will need to be made to still look as good as possible on the S for the mass audience and just well enough for the few premium owners who have picked up the Scorpio, no different than the PS4 is right now with the Pro. For both companies their more powerful offerings are beholden to the current gen, so when all of the chatter is over about graphics, Sony will drop a boatload of games this generation (which they are known for doing every gen around the third  year). What The Xbox One needs is a new IP that will draw audiences outside of the obvious reasons of core established franchises and third party. Those people have mostly been spoken for.

As has always been the case with gaming. Power doesn't win Generations. Killer IPs, interactivity and function all play a part in the value that defines where consumer's spend their money. Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo can put out the most technically advanced systems out. But that means shit all if you don't have games that explore the depths of your console.

The Xbox One and Scorpio will continue to suffer if Microsoft doesn't realize why they had such awesome success with the first half of the 360's lifespan.

Killer ass games. New experience. New life. Delivering on what Gamers wanted. And compelling marketing campaigns.

Exactly. Sony has more often than not won generations because they have what Microsoft and Nintendo simultaneously lack. I'll have the scorpio, but the majority of my time will be spent playing exclusives after the AAA multiplats have had their use. Sony also makes great use of what power they have with their exclusives. Microsoft doesnt need a more powerful console, but better studios to make unattainable games for their platform. Doubly so now that they made the scorpio, because people will wonder what exclusives would've beenn like if they werent held back for the Xbox One.

MS and Sony both took a stab at mid gen upgrades and MS is simply doing better at it. It also earned them some bragging rights just like PS4 had for years.

Whether they're doing it better or not cannot even be discussed until we know how much Scorpio will cost.
What we can say is that they are focusing on more power than Sony did with Pro.

Sony fans would have liked the PS4 Pro to have power equal to Scropio even if the cost was higher. Because PS4S is still a cheap option and PS4 Pro would eventually get price cuts. Since its well under Scropio that and its improvments to PS4 games fairly modest, there isn't much "chatter."

However making the technically superior console isn't what's most important, I can agree on that.

Eitherway, Scropio's power isn't really related to a lack of exclusives. But Scorpio does address the issue of people feeling X1 is under powered and that will give it the superior multiplat ports. And I believe Scorpio could phase out the X1 S in a couple years.

Thats not so. The pro had disappointing power, but their exclusives will make great use of the upgrades. This generation we don't need to see 4k if we havent even mastered 1080p 60 yet. That at least is attainable and can be achieved for most games this gen with the pro. Even until the end of this gen the pro would be right on target in pricing and on the TV's that already exist in peoples homes. This is why Sony didnt make the Pro a true 4k console. When we see the games Sony puts out on the pro you will see why they dont need a overly powerful console to distract from the truth of their development prowess. Once more, lets hope Microsofts E3 makes it all worth it, besides making a couple known exclusives and multplats look good.

Bingo, not only does the Pro lack the ability to achieve 4K but its also not powerful to do 1080p and 60 fps in many titles. For a premium option it simply didn't deliver enough, it was a missed opportunity. I believe PS4 Pro should have been an even more powerful machine for $499 that better achieves either 4K or 60 fps. While those on a budget can stick with the PS4S which is still a great machine for $299.

Quite frankly multiplat games are the most important content of both platforms. I mean neither console could thrive without that so having the best versions is worth something. As long as MS starts pumping out a few notable exclusives a year they will be okay, even if Sony gets more which is expected given userbase and Japan.
