Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Maybe Nintendo Having Just 1 Mario Kart Title [MK8 Deluxe] for Switch is a Good Thing?

I'll never understand the whole "less is more" mentality I've seen recently. I'd prefer a new MK over the same damn game from 2014. The excuse is "not a lot of people played it" -bullshit. It sold better than most Wii U games.

Read the OP again. Its not a case of less, its case of something else instead of MK9.

Mario Kart is my favourite series, so no. I don't want to go 7+ years without a new MK.

I'm fine with that as long as they keep adding more dlc.

I agree that it might be hard to find a new hook for MK9. MK8D has a lot going for it already, I don't see where they make MK9 seem like a substantial upgrade to MK8D. I dunno maybe they figure out a new twist in the racing formula. But Mario Kart (along with Smash Bros) seems like a game where they've pretty much reached the pinnacle of the genre so without a massive graphics upgrade or some new game mode or something that provides a huge twist on what's out there it seems like greatly diminishing returns. Whereas they could easily just release more tracks and battle arenas though DLC over the next few years and not need to bother building a whole new game. I'd rather have those resources focused on making a great new f-zero or some other nintendo IP than a second mario kart for the system.

yeah i would be fine with Nintendo having Mario Kart Deluxe as the only Mario Kart on Switch, although if they do that i would like to see them continue to support it with more DLC packs.

Like you said, that could free them up for other projects like a new IP or revive an old IP or another Nintendogs (MK studio develops this IP).

April 2017-Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

June 2017-ARMS

Late 2017 thru 2018-MK8D & ARMS DLC

2019-Nintendogs

2020-F Zero or New IP

The only thing I'll maybe want is another dlc round for mk8 delux.

Yes. Especially if there is no mk9

I feel like MK8D is sort of just a placeholder because they know 9 won't come out until later this gen.

considering how MK games have released 3 years apart from one another in like the past 15 years I think it's obvious that they could have had MK9 ready for this year, but that would have come at the cost of :

-no ARMS;

-no MK8D;

-no other games possibly in the works that aren't announced yet;

So they decided to split the team to work on multiple projects so that there would be less droughts in the lineup, imho an F-Zero made by the MK team is very likely to happen in 2018/2019...

MK9 is coming in spring 2020.

I suppose they will release MK9 when MK8D sales start to slow down.

Nah no way they're gonna prioritize dead series over Mario Kart. Switch will surely get it's own new original Mario Kart, Deluxe just frees them from the pressue of having to get it out during the first few years. Same deal with Zelda I bet.
