Dammit Nintendo this is why you should've made 1-2 Switch a pack-in game on launch!!

I think that kinda shows the Switch is its own thing and it's being driven by its own demographics, not those of the Wii/DS era.

81% of Switch owners not bothering with 1,2 Switch even with little competetion from anything else and Zelda having an attach rate over 100% says a lot.

ya the low attach rate along with the system selling out kinda shows that the majority of launch owners didn't want it so bundling it wouldn't have done anything.

I think it's good that Nintendo get the message early this gen that it's definitely not the Wii/DS type audience, but that's OK. You can have success with other audiences, and that's exactly what Switch is doing.

Marketing during the Super Bowl, NCAA Basketball Finals in a sophisticated way and have a big time core game like Zelda can sell systems too.

yeah for me I had wanted to support the Wii-U but really looking at the system I just couldn't justify buying one, it just seemed to have so many weird little mistakes and Nintendo being silent on it for so long was clear that it was not going to have a long life, so yeah I felt with the Switch I would go all in up front and support it, show those 3rd parties that there is money to be had on the system and hope they come and support it more than the Wii-U had.

The Wii was a very clear sign that if the numbers are there, then devs will port games to it, regardless of the power, I mean the Wii had ports of X360/PS3 titles for it on what was effectively overclocked GC hardware.

Also have to say, for a launch year we have Zelda which is effectively the game of the generation for me as a launch title, MK8D next week which is reviewing like crazy right now, Minecraft next month, Mario to come, I mean... it's going to have more 90%+ AAA titles in the first year than some systems ever get.

The console with the worst launch line up ever sells the best? What am I missing?

I guess you're missing the fact that is has THE most critically acclaimed game of all time, tonnes of development potential, and a genius portable/home console hybrid capability:-/

Xboxs first 28 days and Gameboy Advances first 28 days (first months) were bigger than the Switches........but hey lets compare NPD months where machines are only on the market for 1/3 -1/2 the amount of days of the Switch. Completly unfair comparisions imo when a machine is on the market for 9 days compared to 28

Thats not how it works because we just don't have the proof of it.

Its like the whole First Week thing. Some game's "FW" are less than 7 days, while others could be the full 7 days.

The potential. You are probably clouded by the fact that you think most people just care about whats in front of them, when the truth is that people are loyal to products that provide them with the certainty of fun for many years ahead.

What potential? The overall 2017 line up is embarassing. Every Switch owner will end up with the same few games (full-priced port MK8, Splatoon 2, Mario Odyssey). There's no variety for different types of gamers. I'm a big Nintendo fan myself but I see absolutely no reason to buy it now.

I think the hype around the concept of Switch is what made many people buy the system so early without looking at the software line-up. They are destined to be disappointed when they realize the droughts take months with a few indie-games in between which are cheaper and with better performance on the other home-consoles.

Part of the success has to put down to pent up desire for a new Nintendo console after the disappointment of the Wii U , still in regards to those games most will have been bought by gamers who's expectation is, that  just like all new consoles it takes time to fill out a new platform and they expect the Switch to eventually have lot of games, from both the home and handheld sidesof Nintendo so it's not like they are going to ask for a refund.

And here we have the word FACT abused once again. If it refers to the first part ("THE most critically acclaimed game of all time"), it's a lie. If it refers to the other two, those are opinions.

Yeah, the Switch will only get 3 Nintendo games and a few indies this whole year. Sounds about right. And Splatoon, Mario Kart and Odyssey are also the same genre. No variety there.

Haven't you heard, you can release hundreds of games on your console in one year and people will still claim it has no games. It happened to PS4 2015. Strange thing is that most of the people making those cliams has less games to play on than their console of choice.

Jokes aside, I think Switch will suffer from lack of 3rd party support when relatively comparing it to PS4 or even Xbox One but 1st party support should be strong. I think HintHRO makes a good point
