That cop must have not liked you or he was grumpy. That's odd that he gave ya a ticket. I drive 10 over just about everywhere except in school zones or residential areas. I've never gotten a speeding ticket. I've gotten one ticket for a tail light being out and one for a wrong turn. Just take the defensive driving to relieve the ticket so you don't have to spend $160.. I don't know if the speeding ticket would affect your insurance or not.

Whatever you decide to do, make sure you do it on time. Some states are more strict than others with speeding infractions and depending on your state things can get ugly very quickly if you let too much time pass.
