Breath of the Wild was in development for the Wii U for years (hence the fan names "Zelda Wii U" and "Zelda U") before development was expanded to Switch. It may have had simultaneous releases, but the Switch version is a port.

You're right, I can see what you're saying.  So... Zelda is a port,  but since that very "port" became the main version of the game and released simultaneously it doesn't really matter. It's like Persona 5, which became the main thing on PS4. Anyway, regardless of being ports, they are still new games, unlike Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and The Last of Us Remastered. ^^

Right, it is still a new game, and I feel it's 100% deserving of Top 5 for the Generation, so Top 5 for the year is a no-brainer. But the fact remains that not a single actual "Switch" game is in that top five; just moved projects and ports.

Of course, by my own rules, there hasn't received a single exclusive 90+MC game this year, with Horizon scoring an 89 and 88's for Nier and Nioh. Breath of the Wild is the only entirely new game to achieve a 90+ so far.

This isn't the first time he's brought up his precious PS4 exclusives he loves in a thread where it's not about them

It's a ranking list. You can't go "Look at all the people I'm ranked above/I've outperformed" and then say it's not about them.
Now granted the OP limited it to the top 5, but those rankings are based on what is below them.

Though I do think that Switch hasn't been out for long enough for a proper comparison in this regard.

I sort of worded my post poorly there @ the bolded, but i'm not saying other games can't be mentioned or compared, but that his post adds nothing to the discussion to just come in and mention games that a console doesn't have. His post was essentially just "yeah but it doesn't have [insert game/games here] so none of that matters". The Switch not having Nier or any of those other games doesn't change the fact that it has 3 games in the top ranking for 2017 so far. He didn't even compare anything.

Though metascore doesn't change anything at all since it all comes to down to people's personal tastes. Game A may have a better overall score than game B but some people will personally prefer game B to game A.

Shovel Knight sitting on a 91? Damn didn't know that.

Where's persona 5 ps3 metacritic? Too bad there won't be any review for it cause it would surely be in the top 5.

Well, I wouldn't say Zelda is a port. It's a cross gen title that released on both Switch and Wii U at the same time.

Breath of the Wild was in development for the Wii U for years (hence the fan names "Zelda Wii U" and "Zelda U") before development was expanded to Switch. It may have had simultaneous releases, but the Switch version is a port.

Tehnicaly Zelda BotW is Wii U game, but doesn't really matter, Zelda BotW is brand new Switch game, not port of some old game, in every other case games that are considered for ports are ports of old games, games that are already launched.

Nintendo fans tripped over themselves to hate on PS4 games in the beginning of this gen for the sole reason that the games were cross gen.

Apparently, the games were, and I quote, "not new games" even though they released on PS4, PS3, XB1, and 360 simultaneously. We had several threads dedicated to the "issue". I hope you weren't one of those because your "Zelda BotW is a brand new Switch game" doesn't correlate with that at all.

Of course we also had all the threads hating on remasters but let's try to forget that as well

I agree with you though. A good game is a good game. Having more options is rarely a negative.

Can't wait to play Zelda BotW and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe when I buy a Switch.

BoTW was released March 3 in Switch just the same as WiiU, BoTW IS a Switch game and not an old port no matter how you want to see it. I remember the amount of people that said BoTW was gonna be cancelled on WiiU, but now they didn't cancelled they say is not a Switch but a WiiU game. What a trap. Is a game from BOTH.

That wasnt just against PS4 games alone, but against trends of ports and remasters at beginning, 3.5 half years later, ports and remasters are normal thing for industry.

But in case of Zelda BotW, like I wrote, Zelda BotW is brand new Switch game, not port of some old game, in almost every other case games that are considered for ports are ports of old games, games that are already launched, and that isnt case with Zelda BotW.

Yes, more great games are always good thing even if they are ports or remasters.

I agree with that. And I hope it applies to all games in the future. No matter what console they're on.
