It will be a glorious day when Nintendo discovers what Anti-Aliasing is.

That was my biggest problem with Mario Kart 8's visuals, I'd take AA over the bump to 1080p any day.

People need to stop taking that sentence so literally!

Nice comparison. I'd say being 1080p x 720p alone is a great improvement, especially since the Switch just came out, but it also offered some other minor visual upgrades. Not to mention they fixed the fps issue. I didn't knew they improved the loading times, that's a nice addition. This is probably the best port I've seen.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

The 3ds vs Switch comparison is quite interesting to see. Amazing what having top of the line portable hardware can allow them to achieve and this isn't even made specifically for the switch yet.

Fantastic looking port and great to see Nintendo taking the work they effectively would have wasted on the Wii-U in later years and are bringing that over to the Switch with little strain on their developers.

Would love to see all the Wii-U Zelda remasters getting shifted over to the Switch too, just drag and drop them I don't give a fuck if I get portable Wind Waker and Twilight Princess.

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive

Funny that they compared it to the 3ds but I guess it makes sense.

Does it take that much of a toll on performance? I know Nintendo is all about performance rather than smoothing out rough edges. Must be a choice on their part.

AA techniques do impact performance, yes. The benefit of AA is first and foremost apparent in screenshots as jaggies are a lot less noticeable in motion. It's a question of diminishing returns, so Nintendo doesn't bother.

No, aliasing is more annoying in motion than in a static picture. The "jaggies" wander around on the lines with a moving camera:

But if the decision was stable 60 fps with aliasing or 30 fps with anti-aliasing in a racing game, they made the right choice.

Yup, In MK8, before race, when image is static and while race is counting, aliasing is very noticeable and greatly affect IQ, but moment race starts, in motion, its not nearly noticeable.

Tagging for later
