When I was a kid and saw Mario is Missing in a store, this was 100% what I assumed it was.  It's also what I wanted, as a younger brother who often had to play as Player 2.  Needless to say I was disappointed.  New Super Luigi U was a long time coming for some of us.

OP would have been my favorite game if Nintendo released it twenty years ago.

Oh gosh, buying Mario is Missing back then must have been a really big disappointment D: That and Mario's Time Machine sounded like they could have been really cool games, if done properly.

I didn't buy it, thankfully.  Always rented before I bought back then so it was just a VERY disappointing rental.

Definitely feel sorry for other Luigi fans who bought it though.

I actually enjoyed both Mario is Missing and the time machine one as a kid lol... of course, "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego" was huge at the time and I was super into those sort of trivia games, and really I'd say about half of my game library (if not more) were educational games. It really was a golden age for fun educational games actually, though the two mario ones are definitely two of the lesser "educational games" of the era.

Also, back then you just had a lot more patience with games and would spend hours searching for things and getting farther often through trial and error... games that relied on that don't generally age very well even for we patient types :p

I actually have the original for NES.

I feel like the only one in the world that actually liked those two games. But I used to love games with educational value, especially if dealing with history, science, or geography.

Should've stuck with Carmen Sandiego. =P

I liked those ones quite a bit too.

But my point is that I didn't find Mario's Time Machine or Mario is Missing to be bad games, for me at least. I don't know if I would recommend them for anyone else though.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

So New Super Luigi U was the sequel of Mario is missing all along?

You know it deserves the GOTY.
