Forums - Nintendo Discussion - 15 ways to improve Breath of the Wild

Don't get me wrong, I think the game is almost perfect the way it is. In fact, the more I play the more the criticisms I could have vanish. Initially I was concerned about weapon durability, or by the map looking a little empty in some areas... But OMG! After more than 120 hours (mayb more than 150) I'm still discovering new things and stuff that solves my initial criticism. For example, once I've discovered where to find my favourite weapons and shields, durability or loosing a sword I appreciate is no more a concern. Also, I though I had already found everything the game wants you to complete, but recently I discovered that [SPOILER?] Kilton gives you a Medal for killing each miniboss in the game, up to a total of 80 minibosses... Wow! And I haven't even discovered more than 14 of each tipe! O___o' (To bad Lynels doesn't count as minibosses, it would be nice to be tasked with beating all of them for a medal). So... another dozen of hours to find and kill everyone and, for sure, many things to discover in places I thought were empty  =D
Anyway, despite founding it almost perfect (I'd give it a 99/100), I think there are several little and big things that can make BotW even better, and that would be a great addition for the DLC. Let me list some of them here...

1. Allow Link to dive and explore the depts of the big lakes and rivers of Hyrule in order to find more treasures, sanctuaries, zora people with new secondary quests, etc.

2. Give Link an armor/suit/item that allows him to swim as fast and as nice as Zora Link in MM. With the amount of water in this game, having a suit to swim and dive like a Zora would make exploration of water areas way more enjoyable (swiming as Zora Link in MM is fun enough to do it just for pleasure).

3. Allow Link to fly. Not just paraglide but actual flying. make a quest for getting some wings-like item from the Rito and let us travel faster by flying once we have completed the rito divine beast and unloked every map region from the towers. Also, some new "Sky Sanctuaries" would be awesome.

4. LET US REBUILD HYRULE. After killing Ganon with all the lost memories collected, It would be great to have the chance to rebuild, via subquests, many of the ruined towns and villages of the game. Just put there new NPCs asking you for subquests like bringing X number of materials, protecting convoys carrying resources from bandits/enemies attacks, defending a construction site from an enemy attack, scorting certain NPC who carries goods to rebuild his town, cleaning enemy-infested mines and forest in order to allow Hylians to get the materials they need to rebuild their towns... It would be awesome!

5. Double each weapon and shield durability (except for the Hylian Shield). I'm fine with weapons breaking, but they break TOO early. C'mon, I can't even defeat a Silver Lynel with the strongest, more resistant weapon in the game without it breaking before finishing the battle. After all the effort geting some weapons, they should at least last an entire battle VS one of th thoughest enemies in the game.

6. Include weapon shops in each town so we can buy each race's equipment if we loose it (for a high price, of course)

7. INCLUDE THE HOOKSHOT. Period.

8. Include CATS in the game. So many animals and not a single cat? Too bad, Nintendo. We want them.

9. We want Darknuts, Iron Knuckles and proper Stalfos. Maybe Armos too. They have created the best enemy in the series with this Zelda (Lynels), si let's also revive, with the same quality and good design, some of the most awesome enemies in the entire franchise.

10. Why no Tektites? We want them. Put them in the DLC.

11. More varied, and more complete minigames. BotW has some great minigames, but they always left you wanting more. For example, there is no proper Shooting Gallery like the awesome one in Majora's Mask. There are no proper footraces and horse races against other NPCs, and the vast map would allow for several courses/circuits for these, with various difficulty levels. Same for snowboarding; so many possible courses and you only get 2 levels; basic and advanced (and both are pretty easy). What about a Paraglider race/ring minigame around Rito Village? The one in Eventide Island was fine but a little out of place, and I was expecting to see Ritos flying around their village after stoping their beast from electrofrying them  =P . Swimming races/ring courses would also be great.

12. Include better, more traditional dungeons (or, at least. more divine beast that explore new mechanics. Gerudo Beast was the only I'm really satisfied with, aside from
Ganon's Castle
. I miss mid-dungeon minibosses, keys, item-related puzzles. The new dungeons are OK but we also want some traditional experience.

13. PLEASE, we need genuine BOSSES. Zelda bosses used to be awesome, unique and had a lot of personality. The ones in BotW are too generic and not very appealing (God that at least we have the awesome Lynels to enjoy full, proper combat). Really, we need more traditional bosses. Unlike with the divine beast, with are Ok but not enough, here you can get rid of the uninspired bosses, Nintendo.

14. FINAL BOSS WAS DISSAPOINTING. Easy, ugly in
both forms
, very simple... I really dislike the design, the techno-spider/centipede look didn't didn't fit with the game.

15. MAKE LYNEL COUNT AS A MINIBOSS. With his proper, big lifebar and name displaying in the screen and, most important, with Kilton asking you to defeat them all to get a Medal. I really love fighting Lynels, but I do it just for collecting weapons and stuff. Having to beat all of them as a request would be nice.

AND... That's all. What do you think? Would you like to see these things included in the DLC? What would you add to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild to make it even better...?   =)

You don't have to find excuses for your opinion like the "don't get me wrong...".

You are free to say it, without any fear. If these points would improve your experience then it is fine.

About your suggestions, yes to everything except the Hookshoot, Final Boss and dungeons needs to be like Vah Naboris and Hyrule Castle but adding keys and more than 1 minibosses.

1. A quick meal button/hot key would be nice. I'd rather have quick access to stamina or health restoring item.

2. The shoulder buttons should have different functions. Page by Page and category by category. The right stick wasn't perfect.

3. Let me store more weapons at my house. Maybe let me craft my own weapons?

4. Wolf Link is awesome. More sidekicks! Also, let him retrieve stuff and bring it back to me.

Yes to 3. Please.

There is no place for Hookshot with design of this Zelda.
What would be point of Hookshot if you can already climb on every surface in game and when you can paragliding.

The point would be reaching certain vertical points faster, and being able to get some items from the distance without climbing/getting to them (for example, taking enemy basecamp weapons from mid-distance without alerting them. There are plenty of mechanics that could be implemented around the Hookshoot).

But yeah, I agree, having it in the game is not as important/interesting as the other points  =)

You're a brave person. I expect a retaliation thread.

Hahaha, I just wanted to make clear that I love the game as it is right now. These new things would make it even better (it's something that usually happens to me when playing a new Zelda; dozens of new posibilities come to mind and you always think that it would be great if they include them in the next entry of the franchise...).

That would broke lotsa design decisions with this kind of Zelda, for instance Stamina would be much less important, in short there was no place for Hookshot in this Zelda.

4. Not sure how it would work for this game. It may turn out to be great, it may also be awful.

5. That would mean the game gets easier for those who get the DLC. I think this is something they should do in a sequel, rather than in DLC.

7. It would be nice, but I don't see how it will be useful.

8. I don't like cats. We need more dogs though.

12. Just like 5, I think this is rather something for a sequel.

I agree with your other points.
