What handheld competition did 3ds have? Sony half hearted supported vita. The handheld market is strinking. Compared to their other handhelds 3DS wasn't a massive success

1- What competition did the Gameboy and the Gameboy Advance have? I asure you it was weaker competition than PSP (DS) and Vita (3DS).

2- The 3DS sold 65m so far. It's still selling well (actually up YoY) and will surely be over 70m when the fiscal year ends. They will still keep producing them, and will probably have some games coming out as well. 75m is a very doable number. That's in line with that the Gameboy Advance sold (83m) with less competition. So yeah, the 3DS is a success.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

Are these actual quotes? I remember Yamauchi to be a friend of open and honest talk, but these are ... almost insulting. xD

That's one way to put it.

B. Gates: "If Hiroshi Yamauchi calls, he will be directly transferred to me"

H. Yamauchi: “Everyone agrees that Bill Gates is a great businessman, but he’s only human. There is one thing he knows nothing about, and that’s games.  If you know nothing about sumo, you can’t expect to take on a Yokozuna"

"There are a lot of people who really do not know about games in the industry. Especially one big company in the USA thinks that it can use a lot of money to surround itself with software companies and accomplish what Nintendo has done."

"I don’t think the Xbox will do very well in Japan. The same old genres and development methods still work in America, but they won’t interest the more discriminating gamers of Japan."

Nov 2016 - NES outsells PS1 (JP)

Don't Play Stationary 4 ever. Switch!

No one would buy a Switch for those games and if they ever released on Switch, they would look way worse than in the other consoles. Just like the Wii, the Switch will sell mainly because of Nintendo games. Pokemon Stars in the holiday would be much better for the Switch than having any of those games.

It's selling ok now. Its now being outsold by x1. As I said compared to their other handhelds the numbers aren't good. The handheld market is strinking

I never said it wasn't a success. I said compared to the other handhelds it's not a "massive success". People were predicting 100 million for the 3ds a few years back

And Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Splatoon 2 and Super Mario Odyssey aren't coming to the PS4 and XBONE. All those games could easily surpass 10 million copies sold. Pretty good for exclusive titles on a new console.

Hopefully Arms will be as successful as the first Splatoon was as well.

Thankfully, Switch isn't a handheld.

Ya too many people act as if the DS/PSP generation was the norm and not a huge increase over previous handheld generations.

Those games aren't going to hurt PS4 sales. The lack of 3rd party will hurt Switch. You can't argue that if games like GTA, RDR, a real COD, etc wouldn't help Switch sales. You can argue wii was a rare success. Nintendo console sales have gone down since the original Nintendo with wii being the exception. That's not bashing Nintendo. It's just the truth. I like Nintendo games for the most part but buying a system just to play Nintendo games isn't enough for me. Just my opinion

They were massive success stories. Their successors weren't compared to them
