Forums - Gaming Discussion - None of the blockbuster 3rd party games coming to switch 2017

Switch lifetime figures?

12-15 million 72 7.05%

15-20 million 58 5.68%

20-25 million 78 7.64%

25-30 million 119 11.66%

Way more than the above 694 67.97%

Total:1,021

Western third parties never really supported Nintendo. When Analyst and Publishers scream "Third party games can't sell on Nintendo," it's western games.

Japanese games, on the other hand, will all come to the Switch. The Switch is a handheld system and that's the only thing selling in Japan. Weekly sales are crushing the PS4. The DS and 3DS (Nintendo's worst selling home console) got plenty of games from Japanese developers. For them, Switch will be a priority.

And as most people agree, the figures in the poll are way too low. A Nintendo handheld has never sold less than 60 million. 3DS is about to hit 70 million. The Switch is also off to a huge success so 35 is way WAY too low. Moreover, Nintendo didn't get a lot of western AAA games on the Wii and it didn't matter.

Well to be fair you could ask that question almost of ANY console and get a pretty similar response. No one really buys a specific console just for 3rd party games....they look at the games exclusive to that system in conjunction with the 3rd party games imo. And since the days of the N64 when Nintendo put their foots in their mouths all Nintendo systems have been odd/almost non existent when it came to 3rd party support.

I think the success of the Wii had more to do with the motion controls being new and fresh. 3rd party games really didn't have anything to do with it. I think without that new fresh feel it brought the Wii would have been in the same current boat that the Wii U is in. Which bothers me because Nintendo has great games that are 1st party arguably the best in the business. And those are the games that sell Nintendo systems to Nintendo gamers but not to many others.....the issue here being though that in the home console market since the days of the N64 outside of the Wii they have really not been sucessful at all. The question then becomes why.....they have such amazing 1st party games so why are they not doing better? And I think that is why many here bring up the 3rd party games because it seems to be the thing that stands out the most.

I mean if in order for them to be successful requires them to come up with the next seemingly new idea or gimmick(as some feel the motion controls with the Wii were even though I personally enjoyed them) then something is wrong. Again I am at a wait and see stand point when it come sto teh Switch because I have high hopes for it. But want to see how it sells when the smoke clears. because it is currently int eh same boat as the Wii with having something seemingly fresh. So will that impact the sales as it did the Wii? And how will that pan out with 3rd party games and 3rd party game sells? There are still a lot of questions for me right now and I can see the reasonings from both sides regarding 3rd party games on the Switch.

3rd party support is not the problem.  It's marketing and market perception.   That's it.   These are what drive success for Nintendo consoles.   Nintendo failed marketing the Wii U big time.  Far too many thought it as just a Wii add on (even retailers were often confused).  Market perception was atrocious.  The Switch does not have these problems.

GC:
3rd party games - yes.
Marketing - not too good.
Market percetion - bad (purple lunchbox).
Sales - bad.

Wii:
3rd party games - sort of.
Marketing - incredible.
Market perception - Must have (at least initially).
Sales - incredible.

Wii U:
3rd party games - At launch was great.
Marketing - abject failure.
Market perception - very bad (Wii add on).
Sales - bad.

Switch:
3rd party games - Not much currently.
Marketing - fantastic.
Market perception - must have.
Sales - Excellent.

See a pattern here?  See what drives Nintendo sales what doesn't?

Actually the Switch marketing has not been all that. It has been decent but not Wii levels by any means. And you can't  say it is a must have yet because  the system has not been out long enough to come to that conclusion yet. And pattern I see is even more clear now. This makes it look like Nintendo home console  sales depend more on the "new thing" or again  "gimmick" as many felt motion controls were. But once that wears off then what?

I don't want the Switch to fall victim to that. I want it to appeal to a wider audience. I want it to sell  amazing just as the Wii did. And even though i want those things. I am still going to wait and see how Switch sales level out. And the impact of having or not having big 3rd party AAA games is going be.

3DS on the other hand...

... Is being outsold more than 2:1 by PS4 (which also lacks those first party IP) and only maintains a lead because of a headstart.

Are you suggesting Ps4 is gonna sell more than 140m?

Because LOL if you do

Breath of The Wild, Splatoon 2, MK Deluxe, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and Mario Oddissey are not being released on ps4 or XBO

Does this bold well for their futures?

I dont recall the PS3 or X360 failing because it lacked these IPs.

WiiU on the other hand...

I recall the PS3 and x360 failing because Sony lost more money on the PS3 then they earned with the PS2... And X360 wasn't a commercial success either.

From this viewpoint the Wii U did pretty well for Nintendo..

3DS is going to finish its life as the worst selling Nintendo handheld of all time. Bad example lol

Also, PS4 is going to sell north of 125 million units. Not too shabby for something that lacks those (imo subpar) IP's.

The lack of these games certainly isn't going to help the system, that's for sure. If Sony launches God of War in September like recent rumors are suggesting, Switch is going to get outsold pretty bad this holiday if Nintendo's only answer to all these games is Mario Odyssey. No doubt that game will be good, and put out some numbers, but it won't give any sort of lead. I don't believe Switch will even outsell XB1 this holiday.

13.5 million Wii U's sold vs 86 million PS3's sold. PS3 still put out solid numbers, and was eventually profitable for Sony. I don't think Wii U helped Nintendo all that much, otherwise we wouldn't have gotten Switch so soon.

And still 5 times more than Vita, but don't worry Switch will do even better thanks to its uniqueness and those subpar (lol) IPs

DESTINY 2(Coming of what is considered the 2nd biggest franchise this gen)

STAR WARS BATTLE FRONT 2(Millions guaranteed as it launches near the movie)

RED DEAD REDEMPTION (the country GTA)

those three are likely going to sell well over 10 million units..... and will release on PS4/xbone/pc

no switch announcements...... does this bold well for its future? I think not....

ive made this comment a bunch of times i didnt buy nintendo switch for ports of games with much less graphic quality,  Also with no voice chat Destiny 2 and SWBF2 will be hard to play online as a team,  RDR2 i think would be way to far downgraded,  until elder scrolls proves me wrong my switch is for nintendo made games and good exclusives
