Forums - Sales Discussion - An exciting 3 way console war is about to begin!

Personally it is more interesting who wins the 9th generation with Switch now the only console being released.

Switch is not overpriced. Not on terms of manufacturing costs and also not on the single most important thing: perceived value.

As the latter the Switch is compared to what high end smartphones offer and wins easily in terms of price, graphics, playability and how versatile it is.

Nintendo has positioned it in a sweet spot: its a perfect first console for Nintendo fans and a perfect second console for those who own a PS4/Xone...

Wait, what? What are you basing this on?

Also, in what way is it a perfect second console for those who own a ps4/xb1?

Are those real questions??

Perceived value can be shown that it is still mostly sold out a month and a half after launch. Obviously people think it is well worth the $300 price tag. If it's perceived value wasn't at least $300 then it wouldn't have been anywhere near Nintendo's best launch ever.

And in what way isn't it the pefect second console? ps4 and xbone are like clones of each other, except that ps4 has more exclusives. So if you already have one of them, the best second console is obviously the thing that offers something different, which is the Switch. Not sure why you are questioning two very clear cut and dry statements that poster said.

Scorpio really isn't a game changer in any way

Switch will be in the middle hopefully

There's no three-way war here because Microsoft can't keep up on a global basis. Nevermind that Microsoft's interest has been waning; they aren't going to make Xbox-exclusive games anymore.

PS4 vs. Switch is only going to resemble a contest this year (PS4 on top), but in 2018 it will become clear that Switch is going to be the #1 in yearly sales with the PS4 having no chance of a comeback because it will already be beyond its peak. Switch's actual competition will then be the PS5 which will lose as well. The room for growth of AAA gaming is very limited and Microsoft will likely remain an annoyance in the American market, taking sales away from Sony. On the other hand, Switch is not only going to command a monopoly in the handheld market on top of its versatility, but also has the benefit of offering more notable variety in its game library than a PS can pull off in the modern day.

What does more notable mean? More genres are going to be represented in high enough quality at retail, therefore the addressable number of demographics will be bigger.

Why are you so often the only person in a thread talking sense?

The PS4 has just reached its peak, the Switch has just launched and will obviously continue to outsell the PS4 for the next few years. Will it be able to outsell it LTD? Maybe - it'll definitely be tough, though. The Switch will continue to exist as the generation goes on, into the next with the PS5 and will have a formidable marketshare by this point.

I don't see how users such as PDF can claim the Switch will fail as a console within a couple of years with a serious face. It's clear this will not be the case.

Are you talking only of exclusives? Because overall, the PS4 has far more variety already than Switch ever will. It has great western and Japanese support, something which Nintendo doesn't

It will just be the reverse situation though, won't it? The PS5 will come out just as Switch is peaking/ has peaked and will be on its way down

Although, I personally don't see them as being in much direct competition, even in Japan

PS4 > XB1 > Switch.

The only realistic answer, tbh.

Do people really think the switch is going to make up 26+m of lost ground before the next playstation and xbox generation begin?

switch only had a slightly better launch then the wii U so i expect only 20 million life time sales.

so its of course ps4 then x1 then switch. ez

PS4 and XOne are very similar consoles, with almost completely the same library. Few people own both.

Nintendo consoles on the other hand, often have an original design, and they have by far the best and most exclusives.
