Forums - Politics Discussion - Turkey Referendum Discussion- Update: Meet your new dictator

https://www.rt.com/news/384943-turkey-referendum-ballot-count/

Today, Turkey may end up significantly changing (for better or worse). With such a large decision occuring today, I thought it'd be nice to have a discussion about it.

Seems like polls are saying the 'yes' vote won. A shame really. Turkey seemed like it had a potential to outshine the other arab countries

I guess we'll wait and see. I don't think the final votes have been tallied yet. However, it's unsurprising, as Erdogan mixed his referendum with initiatives that people would like, including the end of conscription and mandatory military service.

Yep if he wins this referendum it pretty much means whatever Erdogan says goes in Turkey. Which would also mean tourism from EU to Turkey would significantly decline. It wasn't great in 2016 but when he becomes dictator Turkey's economy will probably suffer.

Basically. This vote will determine whether he will gain more constitutional powers or not. This will probably bring trouble to Turkey.

The new sultan of Turkey has arrived! With 97% of the vote in, 51.4-48.6. Also, the no vote won Istanbul and Ankara...

Made a bet with LipeJJ and HylianYoshi that the XB1 will reach 30 million before Wii U reaches 15 million. Loser has to get avatar picked by winner for 6 months (or if I lose, either 6 months avatar control for both Lipe and Hylian, or my patrick avatar comes back forever).

Well on the bright side Turkey will now officially never be a part of EU to 2029.

That's much much closer than I thought. I was expecting a landslide victory for the yes camp so that's quite surprising.

Erdogan's ambitions won't stop here of course.

What's next? making sure his puppet of choice rules Syria?

This mans vote counted for double.

Economy would suffer with a no aswell, the uncertainty what's next is hurting them. Economy wise and unemployment wise especially it is not doing well..
