Forums - Gaming Discussion - Next "It's not that great" game

...

The Last of Us 2 27 19.85%

Red Dead Redemption 2 20 14.71%

Super Mario Odyssey 38 27.94%

all of the above. 51 37.50%

Total:136

So with breath of the wild we continue with the "it's not that great" trend when a game "IT"S THAT GREAT" for some BS reason so, which game is going to continue the saga.

Edit: Added "for some bs reason" because sometimes people have legit reasons to think that a game "is not that great"

TLoU 2, I can already see the "Lol InterAkTive Moovie 2 lol" type of comments

Every heavily praised game gets those types of comments. No matter how good something is, give it to 100 people and chances are 1 or 2 of them will feel differently to the general consensus of that group. They might not hate it, but they likewise might not think it's the greatest thing ever. Expand that to millions, and you end up with a lot of people feeling that way.

If TLOU2, RDR2, and SMO all get 90+ scores, they'll all get similar comments.

All 3 are prob. going to turn out to be amazing. I guess if I had to pick one I would choose Mario because its the only one where I could see some people being upset with the different direction but Naughty dog and Rockstar will deliver, no doubt.

And in all honesty like i said this is a "gun to my head" situation because nintendo will 99% sure also deliver a great mario game, I think these 3 games will all turn out to be animated quite well.

I think that it's not only that, if it's popular/sells a lot is another factor. I haven't read too many comments like these on Nier, Ni-oh or Persona 5 for example

Super mario 3d world just "3d land 2 and nothing new"

All of them?

People aren't clones and there is no such thing as media everyone will like. No game is going to be universally loved. There is absolutely nothing wrong with people voicing dissenting opinions about a popular game.

If you've ever been on 4chan then you know why those games  don't get hated. 4chan is the source of all hate on the internet

I picked Mario because that Mario is New York level just bugs the shit out of me. But really most everything others have said is pretty much true. If the game is popular there will always be the small crowed of people that want to claim it's overrated. It's best to just ignore them unless internet arguments are your thing.

Sales definitely further amplify the effect. If a game gets amazing reviews and is popular enough that it starts pushing outside its general target market, it'll end up with some players that aren't interested in what it has to offer.

It has happened a little bit to Persona 5 too. The latest entry seems to have grown far outside the original market of the series, so some people are buying it based on reviews or recommendations and are sitting there like "wtf is this?" :p
