Forums - Sales Discussion - Global Hardware March 11th week 2017

Yeah, Switch is undertracked in USA. Or were first week numbers adjusted up?

Edit: Maybe not? It's at just below 600k after 2 weeks, and has to reach 900k in 3 more weeks... maybe just slightly undertracked.  Zelda, on the other hand, is pretty undertracked.

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

Is obviously because of low stock

Yeah but to outsell the PS4 by only 4k low in its 2nd week after launch? Is that a normal drop for a launch console in its 2nd week? That is crazy low stock.....I hope the next weeks show a pick up in units sold.

Next week is very likely to be even lower, due exclusively to low stock. It will pick things up in two weeks time(March 25th week), which is when the Switch got a "big" resupply, and keep a constant number until demand slows down, which still havent.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Why PS4 is so low ?   Where are Horizon effect ?

Technically this week is tracking the week after HZD launch. If there was to be a Horizon effect it hould have been in last weeks numbers; it wasnt there though. So who knows whats up with the chartz.

And the PS4 isn't low, its practically spot on with how it has been selling for most of the year. Its pretty much averaged 250k every week this year. plus or minus 30-40k in an odd week or two here or there. But most weeks its doing around 250k

what part of low stock arent you understanding?

We have Switch sell through at 1.62 million after 9 days, if shipments are around 1.7-1.8 million at that point than thats a 90-95% sell through meaning it would be difficult to find one.

it doesnt matter how close it is to PS4 sales because you can only sell what is available.

... I like the fact that the Vita has sold more in EU than the Wii U has worldwide, lol.

As for the Switch, not too bad of a drop actually when you consider supply shortages and stuff... how long did that go on for? I'm curious to see if PS4 can beat it in the following week.

Doubt it. The switch jumped to 70k in Japan next week. Probably a combination of restocking + Spla2n beta. Assuming it was at least restocked worldwide, it should also get a bump everywhere else. The following week will probably be close again, one outselling the other by not that much.

Edit: god damn it, I'm getting my weeks messed up. 4th week is when it got a bump in Japan, not 3rd. Soo, next week PS4 should outsell NS, and the following week NS > PS4 easily.

Who said I didn't understand  it had low stock? If you would have bothered reading on in the thread you would have saw where I asked was this a normal drop off even with supply constraints......thanks for your input though and your smooth response

Uh, yes. It's very normal. Actually, what's unusual is how Switch still sold so well in its second week despite being supply constrained. The PS4 dropped to 99k after its launch of 1.1 million, which is a larger drop in percentage terms.

See every bit of information helps! Thank you!

Wow! Switch supply loosey and still beat PS4!? O MA GA.

smh..... if there were 400k more NS's available.... that number would have ben 650k instead of 250k.

Its pretty normal when something is supply constrained. Take the PS4 in NA for example. One week it was selling 1M consoles, the next week it sold less than 50k.... two weeks after that did around 300k, followed by another sub 60k week.

Launch hardware sales are eratic like that. Its kinda why I say we need to let things settle down on the NS first, at least let t get to a point where there is obviously enough supply to meet demand.

I couldn't remeber but thanks the info! It makes more sense now!

what im getting at is there is no such thing as a normal drop when demand exceeds supply, it simply depends on how much supply there is.
