Forums - Sales Discussion - Switch destroys Nintendo sales record in US 906k

Normally I have no interest in sales, but the fact the BotW's Switch version outsold the Switch is pretty crazy. especially at those sales for the Switch. This is an incredible start.

Hopefully it continues to sell well and doesn't fizzle out like the Wii U. We need competition in the home console market.

Nintendo Switch, the new home gaming system that people can also take on the go, has sold faster in its launch month than any other video game system in Nintendo history. The Nintendo Switch system sold more than 906,000 units in March, according to the NPD Group, which tracks video game sales in the United States. That makes Nintendo Switch one of the fastest-selling video game systems of all time. Notably, this sales surge was accomplished in a nontraditional month for a console launch.

The Nintendo Switch system sold more than 906,000 units in March, according to the NPD Group, which tracks video game sales in the United States.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild game sold over 1.3 million units*. That total includes more than 925,000 units sold for Nintendo Switch and nearly 460,000 units sold for the Wii U console.

Wow, a game with an attach rate that's over 100%!

More likely, this is just reflecting an error in one of the counts.  NPD extrapolates data from a portion of stores, and a difference of 2.1% here is well within the error margin.

Im talking about Japan where Knack had greater than 100% attach rate

It didnt. It had exactly 100% because every PS4 available was bundled with it. Just like Wii Sports in the US and Europe.

Actually some people in Japan also brought the game seperately hence the greater than 100% attach rate

Breath of the Wild... the game so nice some people bought it twice!

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

It did have almost a full month of sales though. Still better than I expected, but I wouldn't get excited immediately.

Made a bet with LipeJJ and HylianYoshi that the XB1 will reach 30 million before Wii U reaches 15 million. Loser has to get avatar picked by winner for 6 months (or if I lose, either 6 months avatar control for both Lipe and Hylian, or my patrick avatar comes back forever).

Mario Kart will carry the momentum. Then Arms. Then Splatoon 2.

They need an Arms direct before launch, though. Likely in late May/early June before E3.

Congratulations Nintendo.

Why not bring the hype for Arms and Splatoon 2 at E3 itself?  Amrs launches like the next day and Splatoon a few weeks later.  That way the excitement can translate more immediately to purchases.  Sort of an impulse thing.

ARMS and Splatoon and Street Fighter will do well over the summer along with Mario Kart.

Nintendo needs to keep up the marketing, that's the main thing. They have marketed at the Superbowl and NCAA Basketball Final Four, they need to keep that up, they should be marketing at the NBA Finals (I'd say NHL but no one watches that in the US, lol).

This is how you market Nintendo, this is how you have success.

Market, market, market. Don't change that style of marketing. Don't you freaking dare.

If they can get Dragon Quest XI this summer in Japan .... with Splatoon 2 and Minecraft .... whoo boy. Look the fuck out. That will cause the Japanese market to explode for them.
