Wow, Scorpio is everything the Ps4 Pro should have been. Too bad they don't have exclusives.

But there are no TVs for it.... so right now its just future proofing.

Worse people that buy 4k TV's now, might regret it a year or two from now, when they release Xbox Scorpio / Playstation 5 / Xbox Two, will all be able to make use of freesync, and their TVs bought now dont have it.

In short... its abit to early to jump on 4k bandwagon (imo) give it another year or two, and hopefully by then its cheaper, and will also have freesync, and it ll be the standard for PS5 & XB2.

You shouldn't oversell it. Freesync is generally only effective with higher frame rates and variable frame times. Since consoles are usually at the lower end of fps and then tend to lock them anyway you won't get much use out of it on consoles. It's a nice to have but not really a feature you have to buy a new tv for.

Thats just wrong.

Its like G-Sync..it makes low fps (sub 60) feel smoother, so its basically perfect for games that run at say 30 fps and not perfectly so.

It also removes screen tearing.... which always sucks to have.

Who cares about exclusives.

People that currently buy Nintendo consoles... or Playstations.... I guess?

FreeSync is the real deal, the only problem I see right now... There aren't many(or non) TVs that support this :v, but I believe this and G sync are the future for gaming. Also there should be a tech that allows 30fps convertion to 60fps in realtime, similar to upscaled res.(like dmitrirender which renders 60fps video in realtime)

Actually Vivster is partially right, but there is more to it than that.

Anytime the display isn't matching the systems output, you will see gains. Doesn't matter if it's 30fps or 55fps.

Its much more noticeable at lower fps though.... like your screen is 60 hz, but your running a game at 29-30 fps.

If you have a 144hz monitor, and your running 100+ fps, it ll barely have any effect.

Gsync/Freesync are for people with slower refresh rate monitors, that run lower fps ranges, its where the main gains are.

Screen tearing removeal is good for all ranges, but again, its worse on a slower refresh rate.

It's much more noticeable when your framerates are jumping around than any fixed framerate.

At least Hardware won't be the problem they have with the Xbox anymore, software (OS) is also fixed from what I've seen so if they can deliver the games its going to be really amazing.

Freesync is the real deal and its nice to see the scorpio support it

Sadly it is too late for Xbox this Gen.

You guys realize you are celebrating games not having to stick to an evenly delivered 30fps or 60fps anymore right?
Less incentive for developers to get that fps stable and let them simply deliver frames whenever :)

It's great if we can get games running at 40-45 fps. Would suck if we get games that stick to an average 25 fps with frames arriving at different paces.

I wonder if it could have some new gameplay potential. A frame rate gun or matching frame rate in a puzzler to reveal clues, simulating the cartoon effect on rotating objects for example.

Awesome news ...

Microsoft is taking the right steps to aggressively standardize on new specs for the benefit of the gamers in the future ...

Hopefully it means that display manufacturers will adopt HDMI 2.1 quicker so that games don't have to worry about tearing or bad frame times due to locked refresh rates ...

It would also be great if display manufacturers can increase the variable refresh rate range to a minimum of 20FPS since it's weaker hardware that benefits the most from adaptive sync and not high refresh rate users ...
