Lego has played such a huge part in my childhood. From the simple colored bricks to the more complex sets, I’ve always had Legos to push the boundaries of my imagination and creativity. In recent years, the Lego brand has been far more than just yellow brick people as it has expanded into a variety of medias such as movies, television and of course, video games. Today, we take a look at the 10 best Lego video games that are on offer.

10 – Lego Island

The first and oldest game on this list, Lego Island was a wacky, nonlinear first person title that, like many Lego games now, let you roam around freely and create your own adventure. The title was so popular, it received a few sequels and ultimately helped the Lego brand create their image and personality in the gaming world. We have to give thanks to this game as without Lego Island, we could have probably never seen any of the other popular Lego titles on this list.

9 – Lego Marvel Super Heroes

Superheroes have made a home in the blocky world of Lego, and Marvel fans were treated to a great action-adventure title with Lego Marvel Super Heroes. With many of the Marvel brass making an appearance ranging from Iron Man, Wolverine, The Incredible Hulk to even the Fantastic Four,  players finally had a chance to experience playing with their favorite superheroes in one of the most fun interpretations of the universe we’ve seen.

8 – Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4

The Harry Potter novels are terrific stories that are still being read by millions worldwide. So it is only natural that Lego would try and create a Lego game based title after the popular fantasy novels. The first of two games, Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4 has you collecting bricks and adventuring through the world of Hogwarts as well as replaying the book’s biggest moments. It was the perfect way to relive the classic stories while putting a fresh, comedic take on the proceedings.

7 – The Lego Movie Videogame

When you think of a movie tie-in game, your mind doesn’t directly think about a great game with amazing voice acting or fantastic level design, but The Lego Movie Videogame offers just that. Taking the best parts of what is one of the better children movies in recent years and adding the well-known Lego formula makes everything about this title, well awesome.

6 – Lego Worlds

Lego Worlds is a great sandbox experience that lets players build and create whatever they want. That creative freedom alone makes this a must buy for anybody who wants a virtual build a block experience. While it doesn’t compete in terms of popularity in comparison to the giant that is MinecraftLego Worlds still does a fantastic job letting players roam around in a block filled the world with free reign on your creativity.

5 – Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham

Lego and Batman seem to go hand in hand nowadays as the series has many tie-in games, movies, and even apparel, but it’s the third title in the Lego Batman series that tops it all. Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham is much like the two preceding titles, but offers a larger story that spans the DC universe and features a terrific cast of voice actors, tighter controls than the previous titles and of course, the humorous jokes that are a staple of the Lego series of games. This is one Lego series that we hope to see more of in the future.

4 – Lego: The Lord of the Rings

One of the biggest fantasy series in “forever” also got the Lego treatment. Lego: The Lord of the Rings takes the best story elements of all three Lord of the Rings books/movies and add their own humor to the tale. As always, the Lego brand’s reach to many platforms gives everyone an opportunity to play a fantastic retailing of a classic story in a brick world filled with action, suspense and many funny moments.

3 – Lego: Dimensions

Lego: Dimensions is the only game series to get the toys to life right. Sorry to the amiibo collectors and Skylander fans, but Lego: Dimensions did what no other series of the other two could never do, and it was by creating continuous support of their plastic figurines over the years. The game is on every platform imaginable and isn’t scared to bring in older pop-culture figures into the fold and gives everyone a face that they can recognize while playing this open world adventure.

2 – Lego City: Undercover

If you missed out on its first release on the Wii U, do yourself a favor and pick up Lego City: Undercover on your current console of play. Having experienced its first iteration and now it’s re-release on the newer consoles, it gives players an open world experience that oddly resembles closer to the Grand Theft Auto series to anything else that the Lego brand has ever published.

1 – Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga

Lego’s best game comes in a package bundle of some of the greatest games that the brand has ever published. The Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga didn’t just focus on one story that happened a long… long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, but went through all the Star Wars saga. From the beginning of The Phantom Menace to the final battle of Endor, Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga brought the best out of all of Star Wars.
