Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Why ARMS Could Be Nintendo's Next Big Hit

https://creators.co/@domwatling/4240881

Many people around the internet - both on the Chartz and elsewhere - have been somewhat critical/skeptical of Nintendo's upcoming fighter, ARMS. I was the same - until I thought a little more about the launch period, Nintendo's history in creating new games in a genre, and the information we've received about the title since its initial announcement.

I think there's a good chance ARMS could turn out to be a huge success, much like Splatoon on the WiiU, although maybe not quite to the same extent. There's definitely a lot of factors going in its favour, regardless. I'm predicting lifetime sales of around 3 million units - and I'd call that a success for Nintendo.

What do you guys think? Could Nintendo be onto a winner with ARMS? Or is this game just too simplified or cartoony for the mainstream to accept?

Interesting reading, I think ARMS definitely has the potential to become a big hit, the major argument I have against it is that Splatoon, while offering a different experience than usual, is still a Shooting game, the most popular genre by far this days, Fighting Games on the other hand are becoming less and less relevant this days meaning that ARMS will need that big WOW factor to become a success. Imho it's going to sell very well but I don't expect anything groundbreaking, 2/3M lifetime seems like a reasonable prediction

It's motion controls done right on a system that people actually want. Sounds familiar?

I'm really curious about how this one will turn out. I can't see it setting the world on fire like Splatoon did, the squids had way more factors going for them that ARMS (new IP in a long time, fresh look, first major 3rd person shooter by Nintendo, great twist on the genre, not that much competition that year...). Around 2million will be a reasonable bet.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

I think ARMS will be a major cross over hit with dedicated gamers and more casual players. It looks easy enough to play and understand and it also looks fun. I think it will do really well.

Not that much competition that year ? didn't it come out the same year as Black OPS III and Halo 5 ?

2 or 3mil is groundbreaking. Because...

-Many games dont even hit 2mil (especially exclusive)

-A new IP (and by nintendo non the less)

-Fighing genre. Literally only like 2 games in the last couple of years sold over 2mil. (Not even pokken/sfv did 2mil)

2Mil would be a huge deal. And at op. I called this game would be bug from the start :p

I mean on the WiiU. But didn't Splatoon sell more than Halo 5 in 2015?

I think part of the reason fighting games in general aren't super popular is there's a feeling they're quite complicated with awkward combos and only able to be enjoyed by an elite group of players. I'm wondering if ARMS will change this - appealing to a wider market.
