Trump to nominate pro-immigration free-trading globalist as CEA chair

Shot:

"America Needs more workers

… With lackluster GDP growth threatening to become our new normal, allowing more immigrants to enter for the sake of employment is one of the few policies that might restore our old normal. If the U.S. doubled its total immigration and prioritized bringing in new workers, it could add more than half a percentage point a year to expected GDP growth."

Chaser:

"Understanding the role of the United States in the global economy

Liberalized trade — in broadly multilateral, regional, or bilateral agreements — is a key ingredient in the recipe for prosperity. … An absolute prerequisite for long-term economic growth is full participation in the global economy and trading system."

Maybe one more shot, it’s Friday:

"Analysis of the economic effects of immigration reform

… This paper explores the economic consequences of expanded immigration on the U.S. economy. It begins by reviewing the immigration practices of our OECD trading partners, and documenting that immigration, as a share of the work force, is well below international norms. The literature identifying the economic impact of immigration is reviewed, suggesting that economic growth could expand significantly if immigration in the U.S. were expanded."

These passages are by Kevin Hassett, the economist who will be nominated by Donald Trump to be the next chair of the Council of Economic Advisors.

This is good. A hypocritical Donny is better for us than an honest one. I heard recently that for some reason a Fulbright scholar who had been to USA studying was denied entry after leaving to visit his family in Pakistan

Just a guy who doesn't want to be bored. Also

Next 50 Billion Dollar Project: Drilling Mexican sized holes into the wall to let immigrants through.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

All well and good if there wasn't tens of millions already unemployed in the USA.More immigrants now just means more labor supply and hence lower wages.

Yea this reeks of a lets keep wages surpressed for big business if you ask me.  I work manufacturing right now in Texas (right to work state, which means it is pretty much right to fire and screw unions).  We have mainly Asians, Hispanics, Blacks and Iraqis as operators.  Guess what the starting wage for operator there?  10.50 with most people being hired with below average English skills that are fresh off the boat or plane.  They've kept it this starting wage since about 2008.  Pretty damn good for their bottom line.

Look what happened to the meat packing industry.  You used to be able to get a decent wage starting ~20 bucks a hour.  Flood in a bunch of illegal immigrants and now the starting wage in meat packing plants is around 10 now.

That's the point. They want to:

1. Give the workers less bargaining/negotiating power in order for them to have less benefits and lower wages

2. Make the American workers believe that the immigrants are the problem, when in reality the problem would already, exist, immigrants or not, in order to create scapegoats.

Good god... If this is true, I expect him to get crushed by his supporters.

Made a bet with LipeJJ and HylianYoshi that the XB1 will reach 30 million before Wii U reaches 15 million. Loser has to get avatar picked by winner for 6 months (or if I lose, either 6 months avatar control for both Lipe and Hylian, or my patrick avatar comes back forever).

He'll probably make friends with all of the Goldman Sachs executives in the cabinet. So cute how people actually believed what he said.

I don't even know how many people that voted for him even believed him. A lot of them were probably just like "fuck it, my life sucks, I might as well vote for the devil I don't know than the devil I do, because the devil that I do know certainly isn't working".

So that actually sounds good, yes?

Good for business, bad for the average worker.
