Oh wow, a 5? That means he likes it.

Jim's scoring system is completely random, he shouldn't be on metacritic.

I don't really follow Jim Sterling, but I always assumed he rated games more like movie reviews where they use the whole scale, rather than like game reviews where anything under a 7 is trash.

I always argued the 1-10 scale system is stupid. 1-5 makes more sense, because everything between 1-4 is basically shit. While 5-7 is different levels of tolerable.

Seems fair. As far as scores go, I mean. I personally think something like how much one enjoyed a game is way too dynamic and fluid to be accurately measured numerically, and waaay too contextual to be reconciled against one another on something like metacritic.
One man's 4/10 is another man's 8.5/10.
But as someone who makes use of the entire 0 to 10 spectrum, Jim's 5/10 makes sense to me. The game is all over the place in terms of quality. Some aspects are pretty good, others are not so great, others are atrocious, others are fantastic.
It's like... A terrific game struggling mightily to escape the confines of a terrible one, adding up to a merely 'okay' experience.
It needed longer in the oven, hence their vowing to continue working on it post launch - because it just isn't bloody finished!

That's really only because game reviews are so generous. Any game that isn't fundamentally broken is  pretty much always going to get above a 5, and that doesn't really make sense.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

This guy is nuts, he has a history of giving clickbait review scores.

Not necessarily true, I mean a lot of games on 360 scored in the 5s or less.

On metacritic you can see about 3 and half pages of that. http://www.metacritic.com/browse/games/release-date/available/xbox360/metascore?page=6

I bet there are a lot of shit games that aren't on the list simply because they didn't get enough or any reviews.

Also, since games take longer to beat its possible the people assigned to reviews actually have interest in the game they're reviewing. I mean a game like Persona 5 probably reviewed really well PARTLY because it was reviewed by Persona fans.

Well 7 means he likes it. 5 Means he sometimes likes it and sometimes not. How is that random?

Also, nobody should be on Metacritic.

Mediocre means the good does not outweigh the bad and vice versa, effectively making it a neutral term. Like is a positive term.

I got it after the patch. I figured the game has greatly improved since then, but it's great from what I played.

I am over 100 hours in. I truly believe at this point that many reviewers just didn't play past the first half dozen or so hours.

All the makings of a tremendous game are in there, it just needed some better work bringing its systems together.

I am playing on the weakest system (XB1) and technical issues are rare at worst.
