Forums - Microsoft Discussion - A hypothetical question for those thinking of buying a Scorpio

Which Option Would You Choose?

Option A ($399) 24 34.29%

Option B ($499) 34 48.57%

Option C ($599) 12 17.14%

Total:70

Option B is still fine for me.

I think there is still an outside chance Scorpio launches below $499. The reason being is they took a brilliant architectural approach to achieve its throughput. Since the UHD Blu-ray Drive is mass production unit going into all the SKUS, if not going to add to the cost any more than it does on the regular Xbox One S that can sell for 200 to $225 on sale. So that's not an added cost by any means, it's already been established that it would have cost PS4 Pro only $15 to include. It's going to come down to that extra silicone for the most part and we all know it doesn't cost 399 to make a PS4 Pro when they were getting dumped on eBay and a few other retailers for 340-360 at lunch. It is my belief that Pro basically just filled the void of the die shrink process compared to the oruginal with more cores, that it's not all that much more expensive to manufacture than the slim, certainly not by the retail price Delta that's for sure. Perhaps Scorpio break even costs could very well be in that $400 window, give or take.

Personally I don't believe MS gains in the long run dumping them too cheap, as it's a premium SKUS and Sony will always be in a position to sell its cheaper SKUS cheaper. They need a healthy profitable model,  the image reset, and not concern themselves with the rat race. The ecosystem will continue to grow with healthy public perception and the rest will follow.

What if Scorpio as it is will cost $399 anyway?

This it will be $399 base HW this holliday season or $449 with a game bundled and 499$ the premium edition....

almost certain... But I'd go for B if only those three option because it'd be the best out of the three for MS...

The Scorpio is unfortunately mostly redundant to me (my PC outperforms it by a considerable margin), but if i was buying one i'd rather option C. I'm happy to pay more to get more, so just as i wish Sony had followed a similar strategy to MS, i'd also be happy with MS going even further. It'd probably flop harder than a ton of fish, but i'd be happy with it :p

Same here, and also I own an OG Xbox One too so I don't see much of a reason to get the Scorpio. Buuut if they did go with Ryzen, I maybe might consider it....

Option B.

I was going to make a few points like this at the bottom of the initial thread post, so everyone understood that I wasn't trying to make a point that Scorpio will be $499 at launch. I just didn't want to add any confusion to the question itself and the options though, so I left it out.

It's a valid point in general though. Scorpio could launch anywhere from $399 to $599, and there's many reasons why it could potentially fit any of those price points. The reason I went with $499, is because that seemed to be the the price point most people were assuming in other threads, as did I, plus it also ended up being Eurogamers best guess as well.

What if Scorpio ends up being $399?  Then very simply, that's Awesome, and the best anyone could hope for. (You could also just drop all of the prices I used by $100, which could change the results slightly, but shouldn't really change which option the gamers would prefer in terms of what you would get for the price, since all 3 options would equally end up a better value).
