Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Xbox Scorpio's Hype Justified by it's Hardware specs

I find it funny that the beginning of the generation was littered with digital foundry comparisons of 3rd party titles between the bone and the ps4, and resolution this, resolution that, and no props for Microsoft having the majority of exclusives at that time.

It was all good for everyone to be power hungry when ps4 was the most powerful console.........

Now...........none of that stuff matters........4k? no thanks.....1080 is fine with me.

2 things

The scorpio isn't now, it's holiday season this year

do you think the suggested specs will be playing titles at 4k/60fps?

Do you think Forza 7 will not be 4k/60fps?

Also, the Scorpio isn't going to do anything for their brand if it's bought by the same Halo fans that already bought the XBO for Halo, while pricing themselves out of most gamer's price range.

I don't think you get it. Scorpio doesn't need to be cheap or in a gamers price range for it to do it's job.
Visit most gaming websites and the talk has been about the Playstation 4, most reviews are done with Playstation 4 copies.
Allot of advertising showcases the games on Playstation 4 or PC hardware because of their superior levels of fidelity.

Most graphics and performance comparisons  (Such as those done by Digital Foundry) show the Xbox One on bottom, Playstation 4 in the middle and Playstation 4 Pro on top, people then associate the Playstation Brand as being superior, Scorpio reverses all of that entirely.

Do you really think that's because of the 'power gap' and that userbase doesn't play a much bigger factor?
Did the XBox scoop up all the multiplat reviews from the ps2?
Did the WiiU scoop up all the multiplat reviews from ps3 and 360?
Advertising showcases it for the system that payed for the advertisement...

DF will still call PC superior but compare it to Scorpio instead of the pro and call Scorpio the best premium console experience, ps4 best base console experience. Then people asking about the Switch in the comments...

This whole most powerful console thing might have some influence at the start of a gen, yet do you really think it will make a difference now? Scorpio will mostly sell to the existing hardcore userbase just as ps4 pro is doing. The late arrival new console buyer is a late arrival for a reason. They don't want to shell out $400 or $500 for a console. The battle will still be between ps4 slim and xbox one s.

With the hardware listed here? No it wont be true 4k/60

Turn 10 managed to deliver a 1080p60 game on Xbox One at launch and you want to tell me that hardware that is more than 4x that in terms of GPU power is not able to run a Forza game at 4k/60? Seriously? I mean, why not? What is your reasoning?

I know a lot of people (primarily Sony fans) are saying games matter more. I get it, now that MS will have the more powerful machine nobody should boast about specs.

But lets admit we want powerful consoles balanced with an affordable price. More users on this forum would care about the PS4 Pro if it had the Scorpio's specs. Hopefully Scorpio will only be $399.

While power isn't everything, my interest in Scorpio has gone up given its power. I mean it runs Forza 6 at 4K/60 fps while only using like 60% of the GPU? This machine is a beast.

Did you see the Digital Foundry video?

He said they basically patched Forza 6 to use Scorpio hardware. It achieved 4K/60 fps while only using about 60% of the GPU.

They go into a lot of detail about the custom hardware essentially being designed to do tasks with less overhead. I'm just not a big enough tech expert to explain it so go watch the video.

Also, if PS4 Pro can achieve 1440p and higher with 4TF, then Scorpio should be powerful enough to do 4K often on X1 games doing 900p and up. But Scorpio certainly won't do 4K in all games.

While there have been plenty of people on both sides whose positions have shifted (the "games matter more" argument was originally an MS one :p), the two situations aren't completely comparable. The PS4's advantage was more significant than it'd normally be because it was effectively free (relative to the X1). As you say, people like power at an affordable price, and the PS4 effectively said "here you go, more power and i won't even charge you for it". In every recent generation, the most powerful of the major consoles has also been the most expensive. The PS4 got incredibly lucky and managed to eat all its cake, and that was worth a lot.

For the Scorpio's gap, which is larger but comparable to the PS4 and X1's, that advantage comes at the cost of a years wait and a likley significantly higher price ($500 in DF's opinion, though i personally think $450). For many you also have to care enough to replace an existing version of that console. It's fantastic for any power conscious gamers who aren't already gaming on high-spec PCs (i really wish Sony had followed a similar strategy), but i can understand why it's seen as less relevant. Hell, i'd say the gap between the standard PS4 and X1 is more significant than the gap between the PS4 and Pro. The latter is orders of magnitudes larger, but it's bogged down by other variables. That makes it less relevant for most.

Not only that, with the 3GB of V-Ram cache in non patched games, AF 16x in non patched games and FULL powered hardware acceleration in ALL unpatched games including xbox360 games will give you SSD- or better loading speeds trough Vram, much much sharper textures and will make the Scorpio the best place to run all past- and current multiplatform games on.

Microsoft have gone all out and all their exclusives will deff go for 4k and deliver, Xbox is BACK.

It looks like a great piece of hardware, if it launches at $399 it's absolutely fantastic, if it launches at $499 it's not going to do well, unfortunately digital foundry predict the latter price.

Nice, I missed those details. I have no plans to buy a 4K TV but Scorpio are huge benefits on any TV.

I want this, espeically if its $399.
