Technically they got out of calling it next gen because it uses a form of the previous CPU. Everything else about it sure as hell sounds like a next gen effort. If they price it at $400, then they'll likely aim to make it the One S's eventual replacement.

Was a poor translation.  He saying it's not just a new Wii U or a new New 3DS.  He's not saying it's not their successor.

Agreed but this one wasn't a lie so much as a poor translation.  Though, yes, they all have and do lie...though there are sometimes moments when it's not a lie when they say it and things change that make it become one.    Release dates are a good example.  Date X may be the expected day when they announce it.  Releasing it on Day Y doesn't necessarily mean they lied when they said Date X.  But...yeah, they still do lie.

Nintendos ambiguity without clarification isn't really any better than flat out lying either.

Switch isn't a major overhaul from wii u. 3ds isn't a major overhaul from ds, yet these are still next gen.

Different architectures altogether so yeah, different gen, if you are talking about appearance then we haven't changed much since the PS2 I guess.
