Great number, always glad to see good games doing well.

It doesn't work like that. Niche isn't related to sales that way. Niche games usually don't sale a lot because they are niche games, they're not niche games because they don't sell much. Niche is about genre, themes and target audience. Persona is an anime high-school class and dating sim/visual novel/turn-based JRPG, it's the definition of a niche game that will appeal to a very specific or informed audience, while the broad audience will say "what is this?" or "what's the point?". Persona 5 could sell 5M and still be a niche game. The most successful niche game ever, maybe, but niche game nonetheless. Meanwhile, PES could sell 100k and would still be a football game, basically the opposite of a niche game. Unsuccessful or flop doesn't mean niche.

Mostly agree with this. Although if Persona (and other similar high school/dating sim RPGs) were to consistently sell really well I wouldn't really consider them niche anymore. Would really need other similar games selling well too though to prove that it's more than just a really popular entry in what is still a niche genre and style of game.

I agree, a genre can become mainstream if several games/franchises make it popular enough for the broad audience to know and like it. We're not there yet, but Persona 5 could definitely be a first step.

Seriously, I think it has surpassed the status of a niche game. I mean, GTA was also once a niche, when the first part released and nobody cared about it. Great games get more successful and by that grow out of their niche. It's useless to say P5 is niche just because other entries of the series before it were niche.

But whatever, that's just me I guess.

That's awesome! I wonder how high it will get?

Maybe I'm wrong, but it kind of seems like you see calling it niche as an insult?

It seems to me it's actually the opposite. Congratulating this game for selling so well despite being a niche title is a huge compliment in my eyes.

I was more referring to other people using the term niche as an insult, trying to downplay the success of certain games. I myself don't have any problem with a game being niche. I know The Binding of Isaac is as niche as it gets, yet it's still one of my favourite games. However, Persona 5 is so all over the place (at least where I live) that I have a hard time still calling it niche. It's at the front page of every gaming site I visit, it's at the covers of magazines, it gets promoted heavily at the PSN store and on many websites. I can't avoid it even if I tried. Like I said, maybe that's just me, but for me that's not niche anymore. The hype is real for this one and from what I've heard for a good reason, beacuse it seems to be one hell of an amazing game.

this masterpiece is a dream for every gamer !!!!!

awesome sales figures, yeeeees !!! = )

shame it still doesn't count as a real game because it's so niche

What's all this talk whether it is niche or not, the game is great, it is selling well and whether you like the game or not you should be happy about it regardless. Since the quality of the game might be an inspiration/competition for other game creators in the industry.

Anyways, can't wait to pick up my copy of the game. It will be my first Persona game and I often heard great things about this franchise. :)

Its sold out alot of places in europe, denmark, uk, beligum ect.
They should have shipped more units to europe.

Congratulations to Atlus, Persona 5 is aiming to become the best selling SMT/ Persona (if it hasn't already). I hope this has a FE Awakening effect and keeps the franchise on the mainstream, we need more games like these.

Also, Atlus, now that you know it sells well, could you please bring it to the Switch? PC?

You know that Atlus said that Persona 5 is not coming to PC and Switch so can you stop complaining and instead buy the game on PS3 and PS4? PlayStation gamers don't complain about Fast RMX being exclusive to Switch.
