Forums - General Discussion - Misconception? 4k TVs cost too much?

Well, why is it that so many people believe that 4k TV's are so expensive?

In the US, I can go get a 60" 4k tv starting at $550US dollars.  If I want a mid grade 60", it costs $1,200.

You can get a pretty decent 70" samsung for $1,600.

Sure, you can go spend $2,500+ for a high end 60", but the real difference is really small.

The myth that nobody owns or can afford 4k tv's s really just that, a myth...

4k capable console gaming can't come fast enough!!!

18 months from now, when there are actually a few 4k capable cosoles in homes, there will be a pretty large group of 4k tv owners.  By the end 2016, well over 50 million 4k tvs have been sold in th US alone.  They project over 100 million sold in th US by 2018.  The adoption rate for 4k is almost twice as fast as high-def was.

But, "there isn't a big enough market for 4k gaming"......

It is near the end of the end....

Well, $550USD = ~$740CAD. 13% sales tax adds up to $836. The job that I'm starting next week is minimum wage, at $11.40CAD. It'd take me around 74 hours of work to buy one. That sounds like a lot to me.

Yea they are relatively cheap these days unless you want those extra features.

Hey Landguy.

Users can choose whether to allow other users to see they're profile. I guess he disabled it.

They're thankfully getting cheaper quickly but this wasn't the case a couple of years ago, just like most new consumer devices. My next TV will certainly be a 4k one.

Actually, I just tried, and it let me see his profile. So either he just changed it, or for some reason you can't see it.

Not sure why you can't...

It is near the end of the end....

The thing is a TV quality is not only defined by the pixel count. Sure you can buy a 4k TV for 600 bucks, but you'll get a budget quality TV.

It can make sense if you already own a budget quality TV otherwise you're getting a worse TV with an higher pixel count.
