Forums - Sony Discussion - Atlus Threatens To Go After People Who Stream Too Far Into Persona 5

Persona 5 is a chill game, so it’s only fitting that the developers at Atlus would have no chill whatsoever, openly threatening content claims and strikes for anyone who streams too far in the story.

Today on their website, Atlus USA posted a note to streamers, asking everyone to refrain from spoiling Persona 5 and to avoid posting too many plot-heavy videos. They also slipped in this nugget:

This being a Japanese title with a single-playthrough story means our masters in Japan are very wary about it. Sharing is currently blocked through the native PS4 UI. However, if you do plan on streaming, video guidelines above apply except length. If you decide to stream past 7/7 (I HIGHLY RECOMMEND NOT DOING THIS, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED), you do so at the risk of being issued a content ID claim or worse, a channel strike/account suspension.

That being said, Persona 5 is a super special case for us and we’re in ongoing discussion about how our policies may evolve in the future. Thanks for reading and good luck in the Metaverse.

By “7/7,” Atlus is referring to July 7 in the calendar of Persona 5's school year, which begins in April. Essentially, they’re asking streamers to stop playing once they’ve gotten through about a third of the game.

Insanely, Atlus has also decided to block Persona 5's sharing features on PlayStation 4. It should be noted that these policies undoubtedly come from Atlus’s main headquarters in Japan (rather than Atlus USA), where developers can be a little sensitive when it comes to spoilers and streaming in general. (See: Nintendo.) It is also, as the kids might say, resoundingly unchill.

Sure that makes sense... You'll go after streamers etc. But sites like gamefaqs will have the walkthrough up, no problem. What about streaming on Twitch? Where the person doesn't have any money invested in it. They'll just play the whole game. I streamed a whole Kamen Rider game, on twitch. And it was another game that had the PS4 built in sharing blocked too (video and photos). Nothing happened. The logic with this makes no sense. Altus gonna ban people. Who post screenshots on their twitter?

I can understand where this sentiment comes from. You create a story-heavy game, in which you put alot of hard work and passion in, just for people to spoil itself in the streams before playing the game and experiencing the game as it should. It must be frustrating for the developer.

Having said that, this is far too extreme.I understand blocking the stream option on PS4, but going after them on youtube?Thats just too much.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Pretty extreme if you ask me, telling people how to play the game.

I doubt they will be able to stop people from streaming the gamr via the emu that they have zero control over.

Step right up come on in, feel the buzz in your veins, I'm like an chemical electrical right into your brain and I'm the one who killed the Radio, soon you'll all see

So pay up motherfuckers you belong to "V"

Uh, the game is out already. I can see shutting down streams before launch (I myself had my twitch account banned for a short time for streaming Fallout 4 early) but after the street date is here? LOL, fuck off.

Good on them. Dunno why it's normally accepted with games. When a new movie comes out you don't see tons of streams popping up from people watching the whole movie in the cinema...

Yeah, like they'll be able to enforce that!

At least it's not only Nintendo who's being ridiculous with streamers/content creators.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

Tag, courtesy of fkusumot: "Why do most of the PS3 fanboys have avatars that looks totally pissed?"
"Ok, girl's trapped in the elevator, and the power's off.  I swear, if a zombie comes around the next corner..."

Isn't the game out though? Companies controlling play usage after you bought the game sounds stupid. The people who get spoiled are the ones who CLICKED on the stream. And didn't this already come out in Japan? I'm confused...

Games like Final Fantasy XV was ruined before official release because of streamers.

Atlus is just protecting our experience. Completely different than Nintendo, you can't compare the two.
