premiere Pro??

No, Xsplit.  I'm going to get Vegas Pro 14 at some point this week.

I came from a 4790k and wanted an 8 core processor.  Ryzen has been great.  It's running at 3.9 as I don't really need it to run at 4.0 anyway and allows me to do exactly what I intended.  Besides motherboad issues, I've had no problems from the CPU itself.

I m verge on upgrading, I m already invested in 1150 chipset so upgrading to 4790k seems far cheaper than going with RYZEN, but it depends how good the performance gain will be and will it be worth it in video editing.

the i5 in question the higher fps isnt much in the thick of things 138fps vs 129fps, i play with vsync so games are locked to 60 mostly and the fact that the 8 threads will be better for general pc usage combined with cheaper price i would definatly get the R5

my next build im going from a fx 8320 to a i5 4590, but the build after that will definatly be a ryzen 5

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

The 1400 isn't that interesting, the 1500x is a way better deal. Double the L3 cache and 300mhz higher clock for just $20 more. No idea why anyone would want to buy the 1400.

Yep, I just compared the specs, and it looks very interesting for a small overprice and still staying within 65W TDP too.

ok so mid range is all cool and all.

what about if money is no object and you want the best cpu out there, has AMD caught up to the best i7? and if it hasn't what other advantages does it have. Yes I Know i could google, but this is a discussion board so I am sure someone has already has an understanding on the subject

As of now, the R7's lose to the i7's in most games, but win with applications that make use of the R7's 16 threads, such as video encoding. I guess you could say the R7's are more future proof in the event of games being optimized to make use of 16 threads, but that likely won't happen anytime soon, so you're honestly better off buying an i7 if money is no object, or if money is an object, maybe buying one of the 6 core, 12 thread R5's and using the money you save over an R7/i7 to buy a good aftermarket cooler for overclocking and faster memory (which improves Ryzen performance by a good amount).

Ah thanks. I was under the impression that the i7 was still the best for multithreaded applications.

The bonus of video encoding is a nice suprise.  I guess if intel reelease a CPU with 16 threads it probably be better then the R7?

You have peaked my interest will have to do some more reading now.  It's been a lng tims since I had an AMD CPU or GPU LOL

intel already has that... it's called 6900K and it cost 1000+ dollars... it is sort of a tie in performance with the R7 1800X that costs half.

The difference between the 6900K and the 1800X is thus... The 6900K can exceed 4ghz and beat the R7 1800X in almost every single benchmark.

It also has a superior chipset... And it also doesn't perform like a Core i5 in situations.

The R7 1800X is a great value chip, but I would still personally opt for the 6900K if I had a choice and money was no object.

it can beat by a small margin... not double the performance like the price...
Better chipset that makes the motherboard with it cost alot too...

Like a core i5, care to elaborate???

it's not a value chip it's a flagship CPU, prosumer CPU and everyone knows that, but, this last sentence just gives you away... no problem... to each their own... i don't care.

just to wrap this up, i was just passing information in a general matter, didn't try to make R7 look good, in a short sentence i expose the fact intel has that type of CPU, the price and a general comparision to the R7 in performance and price. that was all.
