Jaguar can still be taken farther. For example... We do know that the L2 cache on the CPU is 4x larger than the 8-core Jaguar found in the Xbox One. That's a big difference right there.

But I agree. It would be nice if a console manufacturer took CPU performance seriously for once... But an 8-core Ryzen just seems unlikely.

The RX480 is a terrible GPU though.

If Microsofts opts for an NCU GPU over a GCN4 GPU... Then Scorpio could have a larger performance advantage than what the pure-flop number implies.

We need hardware specifics to truly know how much of an edge Scorpio will have.

Which means Checkerboarding is not a Sony technique or a Sony invention, but likely an AMD one.

Well. Microsoft would understand that power does not mean a victory... They did have the most powerful 6th generation console remember.

Microsoft will likely abstract everything that it needs to get around the eSRAM. So I doubt games will need to be individually patched to work on Scorpio.

But they will need to be patched to take advantage of the extra hardware, no way around it.

Games with variable resolutions and games that don't meet their framerate targets should see some gains without any patching though.

Microsoft's pockets run deeper than Sony's. You can bet your ass that Microsoft can discount Scorpio below the Playstation 4 Pro if they see a need, so don't kid yourself.

I think Microsoft will instead leverage the Xbox One S as the cheaper console alternative though, rather than cut into any profit margins.

I wouldn't complain if we got a Black and White 3, Fable 4, Freelancer 2, Mechwarrior 5, Age of Empires 4 on top of that.
But I think we are kidding ourselves. Hah.

I am excited that MS is bringing out such a powerful console and that they seem to be taking a very games-focused approach.

As much as I think Sony made some real misteps with the PS4Pro, and thats showing in the sales, I also just don't think there is enough appetite for high end consoles for this to be truly *wait for it*....game changing.

When you say "literally none of those things are necessary", do you mean to say that PS has no need to ever create another PS4, or a PS5? I can't be sure, even though you said literally, because thats what it sounds like.

Why do people think the Scorpio will be 500$? The HW is around 50% better than the Pro, but also a year newer. Tech advances, and it's not unreasonable to think that the Scorpio could be 400$. As for power not matter, well it mattered to many before, so why should this be different?

Because a year old tech is still more expensive than 4-5 year old tech. Additionally, they MS are changing and upping far more components than Sony. While Sony just mirrored their bits, MS is adding a UHD, changing RAM type, adding more RAM, possibly changing their GPU etc. Also, I doubt MS will want to sell at a loss at launch. At the very least they will try to break even. 

Why even ponder something so laughably ludicrous and non-existent? Has anyone said anything remotely close to "more power = they outsell PS worldwide" besides some random YouTube or twitter personality just trying to rile people up for clicks? It's bizarre, since the day this thing was made official, people with no interest in owning one are building it up as something much more than even those of us who are buying it are expecting it to be. I mean hell, Xbox fans know more than anyone that the best hardware doesn't guarantee you jack squat aside from the best looking and performing games (exception being 3rd party PS3). Let me speak for all the rational people who are going to buy the Scorpio and put this to rest. No, we aren't expecting a 10TF God in a box PC compatible monster, and we aren't expecting Xbox to suddenly become the #1 brand in gaming. We're expecting the same thing we saw with PS Pro, a niche product at a premium price that enthusiasts will buy but pretty much no one else.

Hopefully, though, the games just have less trouble performing with upgrades than they have thus far on the Pro :)

Hows Horizon Zero Dawn and Persona 5 and Breath of the Wild and Tales of Berseria and Kingdom Hearts and The Last of Us and Ni no  Kuni  run on Scorpio?  I can't wait to see it! /Snicker

Tomb raider runs at 4K on PS4P so yeah it is possible but it really depends on dev and gfx fidelity needs to be scarificed.
