Forums - Sony Discussion - Will Sony ever try another mid-cycle console upgrade?

Will Sony try something like this again?

It's no secret that the PS4 Pro has flopped.

I love mine and appreciate Sony's attention to the fanbase that is willing to spend a little extra on better perfomance but us hardcore games are the VAST minority of consumers.

Most brick and mortar stores like Best Buy and Target only stock the console on their website and even Amazon doesn't even sell it anymore (other than through 3rd parties).

On top of that, Sony, the king of sales figues, has been completely silent since December 6th about the success (or lack there of) of the PS4 Pro.

With this idea failing, do you think Sony will attempt something like this mid-cycle upgrade again sometime in the future, or just focus on the success of their main system?

I know there will be some die hard Sony fans in this thread saying things like, "Another April Fools post.", but to those of you, like me, who like the idea of the Pro but understand that it has flopped, what are your thoughts?

Has it flopped I thought it was in short supply currently maybe component issues. I'm planning to get one at some point.

I've seen no evidence of it failing, are there numbers to go by?

Sony doesn't give out sales for every little thing, they announced sell through at the end of the year, and will this year too. They haven't mentioned Slim sales either. It was also the top selling sku on Amazon UK last time i was on there

Hate to tell you, but if you think Scorpio is going to do any better, you will be disappointed. Worldwide, it will sell less than the Pro. But whatever makes people feel better about 2:1

Oh please. If PRO was on fire ya think SONY would have supply issues for this long? Same story since last year.

A good thing though - Yet another loss for the power crowd, but watch everybody still continue to believe its a major deciding factor in how consumers purchase hardware.Scorpio will also fail.

1.) It's April Fools.

2.) The Nintendo Switch is the top selling sku on Amazon UK, in both the 2017 and current charts, so... how long ago was the last time you were there?

Uuummm.... Target and Best Buy carry it in stores...And it's been selling quite well as is evidenced by the fact that it's above MSRP from the seller's on Amazon.

Edit: I do assume your taking part in national be shitty day, but if not... what?

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

The mid gen refresh is because of 4K TV's.
It wont happend with the Playstation 5 I think, by then 4k will be the "norm".
I doubt there will be a mid gen refresh for 8k support or something equally silly.

Its a once off sort of thing I think.
