Lets put this in more relative terms.  You have a business.  You do 2 things right and 3 things wrong.  What do you do next time you make a decision.  Do you do the 2 things right and remember the wrongs so you do not do them again.  You have a lot of text that really means nothing because people have shone to do the same thing wrong multiple times with the same result.  Another case in point, when a country goes to war, they do 2 things right and 3 things wrong.  When they go to war again what do you think they are going to do.  In other words just because someone chooses to continue to do the same mistakes over and over again does not dismiss knowing history.  Instead people have a record or HISTORY of how dumb these people were and the smart ones do not repeat the same mistakes because they actually LEARNED something.

So rather than recognising your original statement as the fallacy that it is you're just going to go with "well those people aren't smart enough"?

When you develop a convincing enough argument that my original statement was fallacy then I would agree.  Instead, you throw out the one line rebuttal which basically says, nothing and expect a result in agreement with your opinion.

As to your answer, Yep you got it correct.  If  you continue to make the same dumb mistake over and over again and expect a different result I would say those people were not smart enough.  Not sure what you would call those people but intelligent isn't the word I would use.

I agree that world religion should be taught in schools. It is a critical part of human history and culture. Should be part of any middle school social studies curriculum.

I also agree to the fact that US is not a Christian nation or was it founded on Christianity in any variation. That is ignorant and easily proven through a little study of American history and our founding fathers.

No one should fear their kids learning about another religion. If you feel your belief system is right and you've taught your child as such, then they will likely continue that belief system. If they don't, then so be it, its their relationship to God or lack there of, not yours.

it shoudl be taught. All religions. it is good historical learning and I think you will learn to repect different cultures ore

I don't think religion should be taught at school, simply because if it is, then you should teach kids about atheism and about all the major religions, and that is something that will not be done in a school environment.

Teaching kids basic history will allow them to grasp some aspects of religion, but if you want have specific religion courses then having a proper balance we will be very difficult.

I figured I'd probably be on the side of the school board, but after seeing the video, I am not.

Teaching religion only should be done if it is done so with complete neutrality. The video shown is obviously pro-Islam. I'd hesitate to call it indoctrination, but it's definitely not straight information. The ending with one kid going to watch the other pray is particularly eyebrow raising.

Did WWII happen despite WWI? Pretty sure they never forgot that, it wasn't even 20 years before them. The guy who started #2 even thought in #1, yet #2 still happened. So no, knowing about history did not stop those wrongs being repeated.

<SNIP>

So how exactly does knowing history prevent the mistakes of the past being repeated?

Sometimes you can make a mistake multiple times before you learn "not to do it".

How many times will you put your hand on a hot stove surface and burned yourself for example? You will learn from a prior mistake.

Every year the world stops and pauses and remembers World War 2, it's mistakes, it's harsh realities, that doesn't mean we won't have a World War 3 though.
But after World War 2, countries have solidified alliances (I.E. Germany with the rest of Europe) so World War 3 will not be an identical repeat of World War 2.

Even the cause for World War 2 wasn't the same as World War 1, the strategies, extent, political wrangling, reasons were all different.

That Phrase is still accurate. "Those who fail to understand History are prone to repeate it."

Public schools shouldn't teach or promote any religion but teaching about it in relation to history is understandable. I believe that religion is a personal belief and affair. It's best left to the individual and to the people close to them to learn about the religions of the world. It's not the job of schools to raise or preach to kids.

The only way this can actuaally be useful (like many people mentioned) is teaching about all/most of them from a neutral point of view without trying to force it on kids. Believe in a god or not religion is part of humanity so it should be talked about.

Don't know in other countries but I studied in a catholic school and what they taught was too biased to be taken serious, even more for me that I was an atheist. Definitely not the right aproach if you want to make it a proper subject imo

The cat in you avatar looks like the one from Shinigami no Ballad. Must be coincidence:

It's possible.  I got this from a artist (I forgot his name). I don't know where he got the idea for the cat.
