Forums - Gaming Discussion - How do you define exclusive when it comes to games?

  1. Platform exclusive
A game can be on PS4/PS3/Vita or WiiU/NS and even XB1/360/PC... vecause you can't get Xbox exclusives unless you buy from the windows store for PC and they are usually priced the same as their console counterparts.

  2. Console Exclusive
The game will be on only one console and could also be on the PC. In most cases these would be first party games and will never be on the PC but in some cases they would also be on the PC and sold on Steam or something.

  3. Timed Exclusive
On a particular platform for any given amount of time and then is on everything. This can still have combinations of (1) and (2) above.
I honestly can't imagine why what it measn for something to be exclusive is so confusing to some or why anyone would act like teher are so many different meansing to the word. Another way to look at it is this, an exclusive is something that you can only buy from a specific place.
I alsodo not look at PCs as consoles, as I feel that they are very different markets. But even if you treated it as a console, all the above still applies.

Where does the PC exclusive part come in?, because the first few parts listed multiple systems together, then had console exclusive split in two, but still serving one system at the same time.

Step right up come on in, feel the buzz in your veins, I'm like an chemical electrical right into your brain and I'm the one who killed the Radio, soon you'll all see

So pay up motherfuckers you belong to "V"

It really depends on who I'm arguing with at the time.

LOL thanks for the honesty.

How else or would you define an exclusive? An exclusive game is something only on one machine. Games like UC4, Splatoon. A console exclusive is a game exclusive to one console but can be on PC/mobile. Games like Nier, Forza Horizon 3, Gears 4. A platform exclusive games are games exclusive to a certain brand but are on different machines games like Zelda BOTW, Persona 5, titanfall, Smash 4.

To answer your first question I found myself arguing against this earlier:

"While several definitions say "one" none have stated that it CAN'T be across multiple groups. As long is someone is excluded, something is exclusive."

It really is not that hard.

Must I buy (or emulate) the platform in order to play the game? Yes? Then exclusive. No? Then not.

The PC exclusives comes into the first part (1). The PC is its own platform and as suchg its own exclusives will be under Platform exclusive.

It will also be a part of (3) caue as I said there "on a particular platform..." You can have timed PC exclusives too that eventually make their way to consoles or a particular console.

Its really not that hard unless you just wanna over complicate it for yourself.

Exclusive: it can only be played in one specific platform. I've always said that if a game is available in more than one platform, then it's not exclusive to any of the platforms it can be played on. I also like to point out that I'm referring to the platforms the game was published onto, not the fact that you can reproduce certain games on other platforms through emulation or backward compatibility.

Quick examples:

· Metroid Prime isn't exclusive to the Gamecube.

· The Last of Us isn't exclusive to the Ps3.

· Alan Wake isn't exclusive to the Xbox 360.

From here on, you have to add "nuances" to the meaning if you want them to fit any specific criteria you wish to add up to the exclusivity word.

Example:

· Animal Crossing is exclusive to Nintendo platforms.

· Uncharted is exclusive to Playstation systems.

· Vanquish is exclusive to seventh gen consoles.

I do consider HD remasters and the likes to be part of the same game (since it's generally the same experience than the original game). In this case, as an example, Metal Gear Solid 3 isn't exclusive to the Playstation 2.

Not sure what stance to have over remakes that aren't the same experience, so I reserve judgment here. I do think The Twin Snakes is exclusive to the Gamecube whereas Metal Gear Solid 1 isn't exclusive to the Playstation (since it was released on PC), as I see them as two experiences that share the same story but have some fundamental changes (cutscenes makeovers, gameplay changes, ost changes and so on).

Good point considering backward compatibility.  What about digital only titles like those found on the eShop?  Granted on this site when people are talking about exclusives it is normally in the vein of "my system is better than your system because of X games list."  When a former exclusive is brought to a current system few care that it is no longer exclusive to it's original system. See ZombiU.

Honestly as stupid as it sounds. I don't count PC as a Console Platform. I think PCs are capable of gaming but they arent necessarily competing with consoles.

I would disagree, with the exception of double dippers, console software sales are sometimes lost to PC users.  Now how significant those numbers are is something else entirely.

Pc is not a dedicated gaming platform.
Yes you can also play games on a pc,totally different industries though.
Steam heavily relies on incredible deals.

But in any case,i dont care anymore, just wanna play games.

Pretend you are a PC only gamer, are there any titles that you would just have to play that would make you break down and say buy a PS4?  If the game meant that much to you would you just find a way around it without a system purchase via emulation?

Pc only  gamer don't  wanne play on a peasant  system with potato graphics  and  sluggish  framerate.

Soo they will miss out on incredible /phenomenal  games.

Noo,i have always  said  and will remain  saying.

Pc and consoles  are not competition, there working  together ( well i'am  kinda  talking  about  the Japanese  games bein also on pc  nowadays)

More sales means more and hopefully  better  games.

With  the  combined  sales of nier automata  on ps4/pc who knows maybe  we will see more!!!

Isn't  that more important?
