Forums - Gaming Discussion - How do you define exclusive when it comes to games?

Like, Uncharted 4, Until Dawn, Horizon Zero Dawn, if it is on only one console.

My grammar errors are justified by the fact that I am a brazilian living in Brazil. I am also very stupid.

Can I buy it on only one platform? Exclusive.

If there's only one version of a multiplat translated into English, it may as well be exclusive.

If a game has been remade so thoroughly it can hardly be considered the same game as the original (Ratchet & Clank, Blaster Master DX), it may as well be considered its own game and possibly exclusive.

(As for 'console exclusive,' 'platform exclusive,' 'let me move the goalpost ten feet to the left exclusive'....that's best left to people being paid to sell machines.)

If a game is only available for one family of consoles it's an exclusive. (Persona 5: PS4/PS3, Zelda BOTW Wii U/Switch).

If a game is available for only one family of consoles and PC it's a console exclusive, because it's not on any other type of consoles. (Nier Automata PS4/PC)

All things are relative.

The qualifier for "exclusive" depends on the person asking the initial question or making the initial statement. It's up to them to set the bounds.

if it's bound to a single platform/system, then it's exclusive. If it's on multiple systems then it's not exclusive.

Step right up come on in, feel the buzz in your veins, I'm like an chemical electrical right into your brain and I'm the one who killed the Radio, soon you'll all see

So pay up motherfuckers you belong to "V"

It depends on context, but generally it seems to mean a game that's available only on the stated platforms.

Honestly as stupid as it sounds. I don't count PC as a Console Platform. I think PCs are capable of gaming but they arent necessarily competing with consoles.

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

Exclusive is limited to one system

..or you can have [company] exclusive

but to leave the benefit of doubt, when people say [console] exclusive, I do consider that PC isn't taken into account

[3DS] Winter Playtimes [Wii U]

  1. Platform exclusive
A game can be on PS4/PS3/Vita or WiiU/NS and even XB1/360/PC... vecause you can't get Xbox exclusives unless you buy from the windows store for PC and they are usually priced the same as their console counterparts.

  2. Console Exclusive
The game will be on only one console and could also be on the PC. In most cases these would be first party games and will never be on the PC but in some cases they would also be on the PC and sold on Steam or something.

  3. Timed Exclusive
On a particular platform for any given amount of time and then is on everything. This can still have combinations of (1) and (2) above.
I honestly can't imagine why what it measn for something to be exclusive is so confusing to some or why anyone would act like teher are so many different meansing to the word. Another way to look at it is this, an exclusive is something that you can only buy from a specific place.
I alsodo not look at PCs as consoles, as I feel that they are very different markets. But even if you treated it as a console, all the above still applies.

I don't like use the terms console exclusive or platform exclusive or whatever, if it's on more than one platform, it's not exclusive.

BOTW, Persona 5, and Automata are NOT exclusive.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."
