I agree. I couldn't imagine what it would be like in the 16-Bit era. Even all time great games like Super Mario World had flickering and slowdown. It didn't detract from the enjoyment at all.  I try to buy the best version possible, being that I own all platforms but sometimes I go back and buy the "inferior" version or get them for free. I rarely, if ever, notice a difference.

I appreciate what they're trying to do but we have a new generation of OCD amateur graphics snobs that can't seem to enjoy a game because a blade of grass was missing in a YouTube video comparison.

Funny thing is, they even try to avoid this reaction.

If a game loses frames sometimes or drops below 720p or something, they'll be like, "It's disappointing, but most people won't notice it a majority of the time and the game looks and plays great."

The comments section is always the predictible, "SUB 720p in 2017! SHUT IT DOWN! IT'S OVER!!"

A game like Uncharted 4 can run at 1080p and mosyly solid 30 fps and this cant even run at 900p? Lol

Horizon even runs at a nearly perfect 1080p/30f presentation. But full 30fps is very hard for PS4 it seems.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

loading is better on Switch?? Like what?

Good port. Still won't buy it

Solid State vs Mechanical Drive, It should be the faster on the Switch, though if you put a SSD in the PS4 then differences will disappear.

Certainly a contender for worst looking PS4 Game

Disappointing resolution for PS4 ...

Base PS4 should be able to hit well above 900P easily but I guess that's why Unreal Engine 4 sucks so much since they have sub-par async compute implementation compared to Frostbite or other AAA game engines specialized for current gen consoles ...

eh, lazy game. The res/framerate on PS4 is lolworthy.

People who can't enjoy a game because the resolution isn't 1080p, make me want to jump out a window. The game looks beautiful and the gameplay is the thing that actually matters. Some of my favourite games are 480p and below because they have some of the best gameplay you can get in a game. It's your own loss if you think any game thats not up to your resolution standards is not worth it cause I'll take a game with amazing gameplay at 720p or below than a game with awful gameplay at 1080p or above. If this $20 indie game's resolution is so important to you then go spend $1500 on a PC to play it.

Are those people blind or something. A higher resolution makes a game look way better. Take Ratchet and Clank for instance it looks so much better in 2160p. Every game profits from a higher resolution. And below 720p is very low for a device released in 2017 especially for games which don't look like they have a very big toll on the hardware. Besides didn't all these forums on vgchartz claim the Switch was almost as powerful as a Xone and could run PS4 titles in 720p. Well it turns out it simply can't.

No they didn't, the ones that believed switch could imitate the graphics of big Ps4 games were an extremelly vocal minority that was always labelled as naive even for nintendo fans but looks like you decided to draw your alternative narrative from there for obvious reasons, anyways, is really dumb that you are saying this here when this game is running at 860p on Ps4, anyone would think that has to do more with the developer than with the hardware, with more budget and time it would be running at higher res in both consoles, the switch version in particular was made in very little time.

I made it my mission to avoid any and all "NX" rumor threads. I hate speculation because, when it comes to gaming, it's almost always wrong.

With that said, I'm sure people thought it would be powerful based on some misinformation and they didn't take it upon themselves to make this stuff up. Turns out, the Switch isn't very powerful. Don't hold it against them. People just try up enjoy the best experience on the hardware they have.

Splatoon 2 is also running on a variable framerate dropping below 720p hell even till the 500p numbers. That game is developed by Nintendo themselves. If you dont want powerful hardware, be my guest but for $300 you may expect 720p especially for cartoony games. So yes I am rather dissapointed by Switch is hardware and it wasn't a minority who claimed it being at least half as powerful as the Xone. Turns out it's way closer to Wii U than Xone for $300-.

I 100% agree. The more pixels the better.

Everything is a tradeoff though. If, for example, Splatoon 2 needs to drop below 720 occasionally in order to run at a consant 60FPS on a device the size of an iPad mini, then so be it.

I'm also finding that pixel count has comparatively little to do with how good a game looks in the long term. I remember being blown away by MGS4's 720ish-p at the time, but looking back, I think Mario Galaxy's 480p ultimately looks better.

On the other hand you have games like Mario Kart Deluxe o Fast RMX running at solid 1080p 60fps, Splatoon 2 can be lower for a number o reasons, maybe a lack of optimization for lack of time, maybe the portable is variable because is saving energy (DF said it was consiming way less power than Zelda), I don't think you can really know the limits of a console with only 2 early games, specially when some of them, as the ones mentioned above, already show better results than this or Splatoon 2

Splatoon 2 is locked 60 on both modes and only drops to 540p on portable mode (Source Digital Foundary) Anyways it's not even the actual game just, an early demo. Besides isn't the gameplay of the game the thing that matters? I'll take a 720p or below game with good gameplay over a 1080p or above game with bad gameplay especially on a portable device were my favourite game of 2016 was Pokemon Sun, a game that ran at 240p. Want power get a PC want exclusive games with great gameplay or games that can be played anywhere get a Switch. There are more reasons to by a console than its power, If 65 million people can enjoy games at 240p on 3DS I'm sure there are people out there that can bare a 720p or lower resolution.
