Forums - Gaming Discussion - Remember Evolve? Disappointments general talk

I just remembered E3 from a couple years ago, and remember everyone going crazy about it on these forums.

And wow. Who is to blame for the hype? This was probably one of the worst games of all time, not just because of its own problems, but the nickle and diming by Turtle Rock Studio. FOUR E3 Best of Show awards. Jesus.

Is there a game you have this issue with? No man's Sky is certainly up there, and I'd put my sushi coins on Spore.

I actually bought it full price, and the funny thing? I actually really liked it :D

The Borderlands people making Battleborn and citing all their resources going into it and felt like within weeks after launch no one cared about it.

Just Cause 3 was a huge letdown for me after the, IMO, sublime excellence of Just Cause 2. The overall hype wasn't out of control or anything, but my expectations were high.

I was let down by DKC: TF at first, because it didn't feel at all like DKC1 or 2 to me.

Regardign Evolve: Apparently it wasn't a pure shit show. I wouldn't know given I haven't played it, but it apparently had some fans.

Comment from the article on Kotaku (in response to someone saying it was a pared down Left 4 Dead):

"It was not a pared down version of L4D. In fact, it was much more complex with a long learning curve. Unfortunately they put the cart a bit too far ahead of the horse, and was looking ahead to more paid content without properly supporting the base game first. The frustrating part of Evolve isn’t that it was a bad game, because it really wasn’t. The frustrating part is that it had a ton of potential but was left to die in infancy before it was fully realized."

As for me, I'd say Spore, too. Peter Molyneux hyped up his ambitions for that game waaaay too much.

The BuShA owns all!

Hmm, there haven't really been games I've been disappointed with. The games I tend to like and buy turn out to be good, or great games. The few games I bought that were, were the few I didn't have interest, but still tried due to hype from the general community, or to test out a game. These are very rare for me though.

I guess I was dissapointed by MGS V.It was still a good game, I felt it was lackluster in many departments, such as story, music, lack of bases to sneak inside and so on

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Well, hype tends to work that way when the game ends up dissapointing. Remember Watch Dogs? Remember No Man's Sky? Remember MN9? Remember The Order 1886? I don't remember this site being that obsessed with a single subject ever, and I've been here through the whole NX hype train. And after 1886 released, sudden silence.

As for myself, the last case I've had of hype were Pokemon Sun/Moon and Fire Emblem Fates. They were good, but I wanted them to be great. Pokemon Moon was way undercooked, did too much handholding, the story, while the characters were better than X/Y, missed a lot of opportunities, and the game lacked a propper postgame (I miss Kanto and the Battle Frontier), and it should have released on the Switch to show its full potential. Let's hope for the Stars version to be way better.

As for Fire Emblem Fates, the gameplay is as good as ever, but I don't care at all about the story and the characters at all. Not to mention the dumb idea of having three parallel stories, sold into one separate game each.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Destiny 2 announcing their DLC plans now reminds me of the early goings of Evolve.
