Pretty good sales all around, switch is doing great in Japan.

"Switch is Nintendo`s single console" says someone on a thread where 3DS is still selling better than Ps4 |
Now, compare all 4 weeks combined.
And there's nothing wrong with comparing its sales to home consoles, but why compare it to a failure? Just so it looks better? The goal shouldn't be to slightly outsell the Wii U, but to at least match the 3DS.

Wasn't the story a few weeks ago that the Switch would sell on Wii U levels because handhelds were dead, casual gamers were gone and people didn't want Nintendo products anymore? ;) Now we've gone from expecting it to sell 15-20m to 70m+ overnight? That's interesting. OT: Great Switch sales! PS4 and 3DS also doing well. Hopefully the japanese market can grow again after those last five years. |
Don't know anyone who was expecting it to sell less than the Wii U. Of course, I'm also not expecting it to match 3DS. Somewhere in between is more realistic to me. Probably around 50M-55M. Could be wrong.

Actually, Many users...
You just don't understand what they mean as a 3DS successor!

Actually attach rate is around 60% and thats still huge attach rate, also Zelda popularity in Japan is not on same level like it is on West.
Only possible successor will be in form of Switch Mini/Pocket in around two years. |
+1
That's the real successor to 3DS not that elongated, pricey thing as a a handheld console!
Although, I disagree with the word 'only'
With Nintendo you never know plus that in that cae we have to be cautious!

not what im talking, there are a few users here who think 3DS will have a successor that is not related to Switch.

Ooops...? Sorry!
I thought that your problem is with those that don't call switch a successor to 3DS because theY expect a revision to call it a successor to 3DS!
Anyway, personally because I like to be reserved... I say always if its 3DS successor, even though as see it as that but I want a proper switch version as a 3DS replacement!
Looks like Japan got about 600,000 units for March which is right around what I would've guessed. Europe maybe about the same or a tad less, the "Americas" likely got more than the other two markets, that gets you basically a 2 million shipment, they'll likely ship a tad more to be able to say they exceeded expectations, but it's more or less looking like about 2 mill.
Hopefully stock shipments can now be regular for April (new fiscal year) and not the BS of starving supply channels for the first few weeks and only really restocking at the very end of the month for Mario Kart.
3DS hold... O_O
23k-43k ( MHxx 1ST WEEK ) -39K ( MHxx 2ND WEEK ) with switch having been released!
YTD
400K VS 390K, YOY UP SO FAR!
Even so... Switch because of its nature and its price must not be seemed as 3DS successor too by the majority yet!
I guess that if switch gets the handheld console ips, a considerable price cut or a more portable ( affordable ) switch, and maybe cease of 3DS support by Nintendo, 3DS would die, ( exluding the 2DS for obvious reasons ).
Unlike in the west, In japan when a console has a successor, the predecessor sales experiences a steep drop...
DS release didn't affected gba sales a lot in the west, but in Japan it vanished it!
Nintendo was saying that ds wasn't a successor to 3ds, despite the BC and the not big difference in their prices, people embraced that statement, yet again DS slayed GBA in Japan.
In the west the slimmer, smaller and more close to gba price, ds lite, which was released after two years, murdered it.
Apropos, New 3ds xl Is mostly the responsible for that weekly growth with some help from the cheap 2DS which brings people on the platform due to its great affordability, who otherwise wouldn't become owners of a 3DS
That increasement thanks to MH XX, must be consumers who upgrade their old 3DS XL ( it's the 5th MH game of 3DS and 3DS has aged ) , since MH games run much better on NEW 3ds!
Hence 3DS has still significant potential, I wonder if Nintendo has some exclusive games and a price reduction for the still fully priced new 3ds xl on the way.
GBC which for Nintendo was a revision ( well tecnlogically wasn't a massive leap over GB ) had its own vast game library and reinvigorated GB hardware sales.
