Forums - Gaming Discussion - Dark Souls III director not concerned about whether or not his next game resembles Dark Souls

Some tidbits from Weekly Famitsu's interview with Hidetaka Miyazaki.

The latest issue of Weekly Famitsu has an interview with Dark Souls III director Hidetaka Miyazaki on the release of the game’s final expansion, “The Ringed City,” which is available today. But Miyazaki also talks somewhat about what’s next for From Software.

Here are the tidbits:

With the second expansion released, that means that the series is complete.

Miyazaki: “As I’ve said from the beginning, there are no further developments planned at the moment, at least.”

Where you able to do everything you wanted to do?

Miyazaki: “I can’t really say that I was able to do everything. As is the case with all of the games I’ve directed, each entry in the Dark Souls series has its own problems, and I carry those blunders. However, I think that even on this premise, Dark Souls was a happy series.”

What kind of game would you like to develop in the future?

Miyazaki: “Since I’ve already started work on several, it would be a spoiler if I said something. One thing I can say is that our stance on game production has not changed. In making a new game, we’re not being conscious of making something that resembles Dark Souls, or on the other hand of making something that doesn’t resemble Dark Souls. Not being concerned about whether it is similar to Dark Souls, I plan on making a game that I want to make now, and that is interesting and worthwhile.”

When your good at makeing certain types of games, nothing wrong with sticking too it.

very happy that the success he had means he can make the games he wants to make - even if that means that not every one of those caters to my personal interests

i hope the next one is bloodborne 2. its about time we get it already

In any case I expecting another DS game, new DS game, maybe in form of Bloodborne 2 or in form of remaster of some previous DS games (DS1/DeS).

GREAT! They have more talent than just Souls.

Otogi

3D Dot Game Heroes

Armored Core

Frame Gride

Kings Feild

Kuon

Metal Wolf Chaos

And much more. Please go back to being diverse. I lost interest in FS when they became a one trick pony with the Souls formula. They can do so much more.

While I'd like him to do a Bloodborne 2 at some point, I'm at least as excited to see what else he can do with all that he's learned this last decade. Can't wait.

Its getting boring for devs and players. Especially if not makeing any improvments. Dark souls 3 has such strong copy/paste smell that it stinks.

Look at witcher series with every game they made big changes to the combat. In W3 you can even destroy enemies bodys, its little gimmicky but at least something. Now think of dark souls 3 huge swords, where you would be able to halfe enemies with. But instead you hit the enemy with your gigantic sword that goes trought its body and nothing happens. Maybe little blood and that stupid numbers popup. PATHETIC!

Enemy clipping throught walls, 360 in milliseconds, idiotic hitdetection and other problems still exist in Dark souls 3. Even the graphics dosent look so much better. My dark souls 1 with some graphics modes looks much better:

Dark souls 1

Dark souls 3

BB released just 2 years ago and DS3 last year - do we really expect these games each year or every 2 years now?

I'd prefer they take the time they need to come up with awesome and fresh level designs aswell as combat design tweeks and hopefully sort out the flaws of their engine (frame times)

out of the souls series and bloodborne, i only played bloodborne. it interests me in ways that Dark souls really doesnt. DS is more defensive, different art style, different lore. Bloodborne on the other hand just hits the right spots for me. so i only played BB, so i really would like another one. if i played all the souls games i would agree with you, it would be over kill. but for me personally i only just played one game, and want more of it.
