Forums - Sports Discussion - Hockey Prodigy Connor McDavid Leads Oilers To First Playoff Berth In Decade+

The last time the Edmonton Oilers made the NHL playoffs was spring 2006. They've never been back since that summer where they made it to Game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals. After a decade long rebuild and losing season after losing season, the Oilers clinched a playoff berth tonight, in large part to hockey phenom Connor McDavid. The Oilers won the McDavid lottery in 2015, hyped as hockey's LeBron James, and he has turned the team around, currently leading the NHL in scoring as well.

Enjoy Oiler fans. You have waited a long, long time for this.

Go Sports!

Montreal should have done this too but instead they kept trying to make the playoff every seasons with rentals and old guys wemight have a super star like connor or sidney on the team :(

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

Surprised they got in, were doing really badly for quite some time

I'm a Canucks fan, but this is pretty cool. I believe it was 2004 when they last made it. They went to the cup and lost to...somebody. Tampa? Carolina?

-edit. whoops. says 2006 in the op.

Hey, it only took 'em 10 years and four first overall picks, didn't it?
In all seriousness, congrats to the team for this achievement. This season was like a whole new beginning with a new star-player and a new arena.
Hall, Nungent-Hopkins, and especially Yakapov flopped so hard. It's good to see them get rid with two of the three.

Meanwhile us here in Vancouver are still salty about losing in 2011 ;:(

Bet with Intrinsic:

The Switch will outsell 3DS (based on VGchartz numbers), according to me, while Intrinsic thinks the opposite will hold true. One month avatar control for the loser's avatar.

I'd only say Yakupov was truly a flop.
