Forums - General Discussion - Why do we focus on women's clothing?

Guess you could call this a shower thought.

A lot of people seem very keen on telling women what to wear. Wear this, don't wear that, blah blah blah.

Obviously, almost every country gives you the right to wear what you like (as long as it isn't the niqab or nudity), so this isn't exactly a dramatic issue. I just find it disappointing to still see people flip out over what women wear.

Personally, I could care less if they go for something revealing or not- unfortunately, seems like not everyone has the same casual attitude I possess.

Because women as a whole over history have been subject to what society (influenced by the patriarchy) think moreso than men.

Or because girls only like frilly things like clothes and makeup so they are all super superficial.

It's true. Unlike men, who can wear pants or skirts without anyone passing judgement, women can only wear skirts.

Err... do we?

Unless you mean the burqa, and that is because it's a religious artifact thrown in your face with pretty abusive women's right's origins.

I don't focus on women's clothing. I focus on what's underneath

I only really focus on what I wear as a dude.

I am not referring to the niqab/burqa. that's a different issue.

This isn't exactly statistical-based (hence it being a shower thought), but sometimes I see people flip out over what a woman wears. Whether if she chooses to wear a hijab or show some of her chest, people begin to react in interestin ways

I only care when really old or super fat people wear tight or revealing clothes as it makes me ill.

Try that and come back to tell us your story. Unless you're in Scotland, you will receive a lot of insults for wearing a skirt.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

First, the nature of human sexuality means that men generally "pursue" mates or try to impress them through some type of achievement while women typically attempt to make themselves "pursuit-worthy" by looking good. Women's bodies are a key aspect of this, with permanently enlarged breasts developed solely for a woman to promote that she is good reproductive material. As such, both men and women are far more likely to look at and evaluate a woman's body than a man's.

Second, as a result of the first point, women's fashion is far more developed and varied than men's, with clothing designed to either exaggerate or de-emphasise sexual features.

So because of human nature, and because women have a wide variety of clothing options, people evaluate and care what they wear.
